How You Test Your Betting System

Hey guys, I wrote a little starters guide about testing your betting system I thought may be helpful
I don't want to break any rules so, this is the post - https://valuebettingblog.com/testing-your-betting-system/ But I've pasted it all below so you don't have to leave reddit.
Hopefully its somewhat helpful!
If you don’t know how to test your betting system, you’re flying blind. I’ll breakdown why we test, the forms of testing and the methods you can use.
You could call every stage of betting a form of testing:
While you are gathering information to create the grounding of your system; you’re testing.
Once you have your method and are trialling and backtesting; you’re obviously testing.
Then, when you are using your system, successfully or unsuccessfully, you are also testing with every subsequent bet.
Knowing how to analyse your system is an absolute non-negotiable in creating and maintaining profitable betting systems.

Why We Test (Rigorously)

This seems kind of obvious. If you don’t test something, you don’t know if it works.
But, that is just the beginning. We test comprehensively so that we don’t confuse variance with value.
To best explain how variance can affect our perception, I did a simple calculation:
Bets: 100Odds: 2.00Stake: 1% (proportional staking)Yield: -4%
This system, that is clearly unprofitable long-term, will make a profit 30.82% of the time...
If you were in that 30.82% and you were happy with this measly 100 bet trial, you may as well have not tested at all.
You’d be flying straight into the arms of bankroll bankruptcy as that -4% yield chipped away at your betting account and sanity.
We must test and we must test properly.
Use this spreadsheet to run the same simulation with whatever numbers you want - Profit-Probability

Testing Methods

All three of the listed methods should be used in one way or another.
Notice the absence of popular methods: 'intuition' and 'gut feel'...

Real Test (With A Small Bankroll)

The most simple way to test - trialling your own system with a smaller bankroll. A real test.
I polled some long-term profitable sports bettors for a recent article. There were some surprising answers, but it was no surprise that many of them recommended trialling with a small bankroll before committing any significant money. Sometimes for years.
This doesn’t mean winning 15/20 of the intuitive head to head bets that you placed because you had a good feeling about them. This means using your well-defined system over a period of months, sometimes years, and diligently logging 1000+ bets to validate or invalidate your betting system.
This method is great, it’s simple, and it works. But, it takes a long time. Spending years only to find your system is unprofitable would be wholly demoralising.
Betting volume is key here, if you are able to find ten value bets a day that fit the criteria of your system, you can get valuable, consequential data of 1000 bets logged in just over three months. But if not, it can be a slog.
This is where the backtest method is valuable.

Backtest

Luckily, every sports result and thousands of in-depth stats are available for free to every single one of you. It’s a beautiful ever-updated resource called the Internet.
The secret to testing and improving a system is simply to spend time going through past results and trying to find trends in the statistics.
Here is an example (don't use it):
Start with something to test - Over the past 500 games, Team A wins what % of games when the weather is below 15 Celsius?
First, you'll log the last 500 relevant games, using fbref.com for Football, bbref.com for Basketball, or any other database of results. Then, put all the relevant weather conditions into the same spreadsheet, giving you a correlation; in this case, it'll be a %.
55% of the time Team A wins in sub-15-celsius conditions. They must just love that cold weather and have superior weatherproof gloves than the rest of the competition...
With a 55% probability of occurring all we need to breakeven is odds of $1.82. If we can find odds of $2.00 we have clearly found odds above the required.
There are plenty above 2.00? Cool, now we’re rich.
Let’s be clear, this is a terrible inconsequential metric to backtest - but, the theory is that simple.
Oftentimes you will need to be testing multiple metrics against each other for 1000+ bets and failing many times before you find a system that succeeds with enough bet volume to be worth your time.
The benefit of backtesting is that you can spend the time doing it, right now. If you are trialling a system in real-time, you are waiting to log results week by week and season by season. Backtesting allows you to commit and spend as much time as you can right now finding a successful system.

Closing Line Testing

Across the board, there is no one smarter than the market. No One. More specifically, the market when it closes.
Over the long-term, the closing line; the odds at which the market closes, is analogous to the true probability of an event (minus the bookmaker margin). This is called the CLV (Closing Line Value) and it gives us something to compare ourselves to.
This general accuracy of the closing line is a product of many things:
First, the bookmaker publishes odds which they believe to reflect the true probability of an event, using the huge amount of resources at their disposal.
Next, bettors from all over the world bet on those odds. Recreational punters and serious punters.
Recreational punters bet on either side of the event, usually without much method. This barely affects the odds unless the bookmaker has made an obvious error.
Then, we have serious bettors, using their own analysis to find fault and value in the bookmaker odds - bookmakers react to the incoming bets, using these actions of highly regarded profitable bettors to help adjust the odds to the mutually calculated 'true odds' of the event.
It is essentially a battle between bookmakers and serious bettors, fighting it out to work out what the true probability of an event is. With a sea of recreational punters inconsequentially dancing around them and throwing cash at the bookmaker. A dizzying image.
That range between where the odds began and where they closed is where the value is.
To be clear, it’s not impossible to win money purely betting the closing odds. But, it is extremely hard. You are not only contending with the bookmaker’s initial analysis, but you are also contending with other serious sports bettors, the added information gathered by the bookmaker since the first odds were published, and the bookmaker margin.
So, the key to measuring yourself and your ability against the closing line is simple:
  1. Record the odds at which you placed the bet
  2. Record the closing line odds
  3. Calculate the bookmaker margin
  4. Calculate your implied yield
  5. Repeat 100’s of time...
For example, your system identified a market in which you believed the odds should have been 1.90-2.00, but you found odds of 2.05, a clear value bet based on your system.
The market then closed at 1.96, after removing the bookmaker margin of 2% the true implied odds would be 2.00.
Then to calculate the true yield you achieved, simply do: 2.05/2.00 = 2.5%
You have beaten the true closing line by 2.5%
Joseph Buchdahl wrote a great piece on Closing Line Value, showing the efficacy of testing against closing lines - Using the closing line to test your skill in betting.
Closing Line Value, as a theory, isn't bulletproof. But, it's strong and it may be the most reliable measure we have to test our systems.

Other Things To Test

Even a profitable system can be a failing system, let me explain how:

Time/Yield Ratio

Your time has a $ value. This is where the trialling method comes in.
If you spend two hours a day analysing markets and placing bets, and your average daily profit is $30, you are judging one hour of your time to be worth $15 - is that what your time is worth?
You have to know the cost in time and effort that is required by your betting system. Trial the system, see how long it takes you to place bets, compare odds, calculate stakes, and then evaluate the true cost of doing business.

Volume

So often neglected when people describe their betting systems. Volume > Yield.
Obviously, it's more nuanced than that. But, I'll take a system with a 2-3% yield with multiple bets per day over a system with a 10% yield but that only provides one bet per week. Every time.
The lower the volume, the longer it takes to test, and the longer it takes to compound your bankroll. If it's taking you three years to log 500 bets, your edge could be lost before you even get to profit from it.

Life/Bet Balance

You've backtested your system, it works, it's got the volume, the yield, and takes very little ongoing maintenance. You're all set, right?
Not quite. I bet on ITF tennis, many of those markets are released while late at night over here in Melbourne. Luckily, the odds often hold and I'm also a bit of a night owl. It's not a problem for me.
But, if you have to stay up to use your system, you have to evaluate whether it's worth it. If you work 9-5 and have to keep your phone ready during the day, that could threaten your job. You might not want to be checking your phone while spending time with your family in the afternoons. All things that need to be considered.
We are slaves to bookmakers and when they make odds available. Sometimes, your system just won't fit your life (so give it to me).

Bookmaker Availability

We all know this one, bookies don't like your winning system. They also have the power to cripple it.
Most bookmakers will limit or ban you for winning regularly and consistently in large volumes. Your backtests don't account for that, your small bankroll trials don't account for that.
First, assess how many bookmakers your system will work with. Then, open accounts with as many bookmakers as possible. The key to not being limited is spreading your bets across multiple bookies. Here is an article detailing some other ways to sidestep bookmaker limits.
Ask other bettors what their experiences are. You won't have to go far to find out that Pinnacle doesn't limit and Paddy Power does, quickly. Here is a list of some 'no limit bookmakers'.
Do your research, testing a system for a year and then being limited within a week would be extremely frustrating.

Conclusion

Are you convinced? Testing diligently is imperative to building a profitable method.
All a bit too much? There always is the option to outsource your betting analysis to a tipster or service. For that, I'll direct you to this article - Find The Best Tipsters (A Sceptics Guide)
A rigid plan and framework for building your betting system would be:
  1. Backtest your initial hypothesis, over a month, year, and multi-year period. Analyse closing lines for the backtested data.
  2. Trial your system with a small bankroll and reach 1000 bets. Analyse all bets against the closing line.
  3. Compare your backtest with your trial. Did your backtest have any oversights?
  4. Analyse the human aspects of your system. Were the bets too time-consuming to place? Did it cut into your family time?
  5. Analyse the logistics. How available were bookmakers, have you been told they are quick to limit? Is there enough volume?
  6. Decide if it's worth it.
  7. Profit
Time-consuming? Yeah. Important? YES.
Good luck with your betting systems.

OBLIGATORY FILLER MATERIAL…Lights, camera, carnage!

That reminds me of a story…
OK, OK.
I know it’s been like, forever, since I posted an updated Demolition Days entry. Plus, I still have to finish the saga of how Esme and I escaped from the Middle East. However, these past few weeks really deserve their own entry.
So here it is.
So there.
Anyways…
I’m sitting in my office over betwixt the Geology and Petroleum Engineering Departments as I’m currently under contract for both.
Oh, and here’s a bit of an update: so is Esme.
Yep. She decided that she has way too much free time on her hands around campus so she’s going to go after her very own geology Ph.D. Just think, she finishes and the Rocknocker household will hold a real paradox.
Pair o’ docs…get it?
Really?
Some days it’s just not worth chewing through the leather straps…
Continuing.
Khan is growing like a weed and often accompanies us to our office in the departments.
He’s been accepted by everyone as one rather large, outsized, and rambunctious Rig Dog; sort of the Geology and PE Department’s unofficial mascot. I have no lack of volunteers when it comes time for Khan’s walkies. He’s such a lovable, slobbery doofus, everyone’s kind of taken with him.
So, we’re sitting in our office, Khan wandering the halls looking for scritches and I’m working on my next article for Fuel Magazine, while also working on a fresh Greenland coffee.
“Rock”, Esme states categorically, “I’m not like you. I can’t sit and hammer a keyboard eight hours straight. I’m going to the house and start dinner. Should I take Khan home or will you bring him along later?”
“Hell if I know where he even is right now, Dear”, I reply, as Khan has wandered off again and is probably slathering over some brontosaur femur in the school’s vertebrate paleontology museum.
“Fair enough, Hon”, Es states, stands and cracks like a stack of tinder. “I don’t know how you can sit there, slurp Greenlands all day and still be able to move at night.”
“All part of being an ethanol-fueled, carbon-based organism,”, I smile back. “Plus, the more I write now, the less I’ll have to do over the holidays; so there’s that dynamic keeping me going as well.”
“OK”, she agrees, “Don’t stay too late. I’m planning on Ossobuco tonight. Can you drop by the bottle shop and pick up a nice red for dinner?”
“Chinese or Soviet?” I asked.
She simply ignored the feeble joke and told me to use my better judgment.
I was going to ask her which, but I decided to just smile and tell her I would and I’d be along in a few hours.
I’m working on some of the more unconventional aspects of a very large asset here is one of the local sedimentary basins. It’s one where they have to drill 10,000 feet deep, turn sideways and drill another 15,000 or so feet, then hydraulically fracture the living fuck out of the reservoir because it’s tighter than Dick’s hatband. Just another day in the trenches.
Suddenly, Dean of the department wanders in and fixes his own Greenland coffee from my supplies.
“Y’know Roc”, Dr. Per says, “It’s weird having a 60+-year-old doctoral candidate here.”
“Oh?”, I innocently ask, “How so, Junior?” as I’m at least 20 years his senior.
“Well, for some reason”, he continues, ignoring my comment after slurping at his soupçon, “Many people in the department have taken to keeping bottles of booze in their desks and the rate of cigar smokers around here has skyrocketed.”
“I see no obvious correlation between the two events”, I replied modestly.
“The hell you don’t”, he laughed. “You’re a perambulating bad example. You swear, you smoke, you drink and you make no bones about it.”
“That’s all very fucking true”, I snicker back, “And…?”
“And we wouldn’t have it any other way.” He laughs. “Once the news hit that you were going to be studying for your DSc here, we’ve had all sorts of inquiries. Many from prospective students, a load from the Oil Patch, and even one or two from the government, if you follow the way I’ve drifted…?”
“Oh, you mean Agents Rack and Ruin of the Agency?”, I replied, “Did you finally meet them?”
“Oh, I spoke with them months and months ago.” He explained. “But it’s the calls from Russia, China, and North Korea asking about you that gives me just the slightest bit of pause. Do you really know someone from the NKVD named ‘Olga the KGB Lady?’”
“Olga called?” I started, “And you didn’t tell me?”
Dr. Per sighs. “Damn, I knew it just had to be true. It’s too weird to be make-believe.”
“I’m the original prototype.” I smile as I drain my coffee, “A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”
“And well-read, evidently”, Dr. Per chuckles.
“Of course”, I replied. “There was something else you wanted?”
“Oh, yes.”, he replies, “We’ve got a request from the Humanities Department. There’s a bunch of fourth-year film students doing a movie. Evidently, they got a grant from some crowd out of Hollywood. Gave them a load of dosh to make their student film, which from what I understand is a cross between ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Godzilla’; but much artsier, of course.”
“Of course”, I replied.
“Anyways”, he continued, “They’re going ‘old school’, as they put it. ‘Man in rubber suit-mation’. That means detailed miniatures.”
“And…?”, I smile broadly, hoping he’ll fill in the rest.
“Explosions”, he finally says, “Lots and lots of explosions. But they need someone who’s licensed…you see where this is going. Right?”
“Let’s see”, I summarized, “They want the kindly, wizened old Dr. Rocknocker to provide the pyrotechnics for their film extravaganza?”
“Yeah, that’s it in one”, Dr. Per replies, “But remember. This is all in miniature. The pyrotechnics here are going to be seriously fractional to what you’re used to.”
“Dr. Per?” I asked, “Are you a fully licensed and tenured master blaster?”
“No,” he replies truthfully.
“Then leave the explosions to me”, I snickered.
“Gladly”, he smiles back, shakes his head in mock disbelief, and refills his Greenland coffee mug before departing.
The next day, I have several visitors from the Film Department.
Now, far be it from me to cast any sort of aspersions or bow to stereotypes, but at this particular university, we have an outsized Asian population. Which is especially weird considering the currently frosty climate here.
Decidedly most un-Asian. Not a single jungle or rice paddy to be seen.
Ahem.
No, I’m not trying to be stereotypical, or racist, just truthful. As the film crew consists entirely of Asian students. A group of mainland Chinese, one Vietnamese, a couple of Japanese, and one or two odd Koreans.
There’s Xuan Jiahao, Fan Ling, Wan Yating, Geng Zhelan, Yin Zexi, and Duan Zedong. Then there’s Nguyễn Xuân Hãn, Tatsuno Miyuki, Fukutsuchi Yoshimatsu and Ya Na-Woon, and Pang Byeong-Cheol.
And that’s just for starters.
We’re all assembled in the main conference room, and it looks like it’s going to be a multi-media spectacular. They’re going ‘Full Monty’ on us, showing us all they’ve got, figuratively speaking, to try and entice me to work with them.
Plus, they want me to do it for cheap or free. Preferably the latter.
Hell, any chance I get to blow shit up, that’s payment enough. But I’m not about to tell them that, at least, not yet.
Once we’re all settled in the conference room, I decide I’ll be the Master of Ceremonies, for at least the beginning.
“Well”, I began, “Good day and welcome to the University’s Geology and PE Department. I’m, as you already know, Dr. Rock, and I’m the one that will potentially be handling all the pyrotechnics for you during the filming of your latest epic. Please, just call me ‘Rock’, if you don’t mind. Also, please state your name or nickname before replying. Sorry, but I’m a tad bit overwhelmed with your numbers. Just for a while until I get you all in some sort of order.”
“I’m Fan, sir”, Fan Ling began, “I am the group leader here.”
“OK, Fan”, I reply, “It’s just ‘Rock’, as I’ve never been knighted. Yet. Please tell me about your project and what small part I can play.”
So, over the next three hours, several Greenland coffees and tots later, I have a pretty firm grasp on what they are setting out to do.
Gad.
They are a batch of senior year film students from around the globe, as there is another mob, sort of more behind the scenes, whom I haven’t yet met. They somehow got the attention of a bunch of big film producers in Hollywood and wrangled a fairly hefty grant from them so they can complete their picture.
It’s going to be a kaiju/superhero/animation/folklore/anime/manga mash-up of some sort or other; I really didn’t follow whatever was considered to be the plot. However, it’s going to have some pretty nifty CGI, “Suitmation” for some of the kaiju, and some incredibly ethnic superheroes; like “Sushi Man”, “Mao Man”, and “ARVN Man”.
It has elements of comedy, horror, gore, giant monsters, and miniatures; all being stomped and blown up. If one looks at the thing for a sort of skewed meta-viewpoint, it does have things to say about racism, bigotry, and prejudice today, just delivered with a soft double-tap to the head.
All in all, I can’t wait to both be a part of the flick and see the thing when it’s finished.
The trouble is, none of them have the foggiest notion of what pyrotechnics are nor how they are handled.
“Doctor, sir Rock, you can help us?” Duan asked hopefully.
“Just try and hold me back!”, I grinned widely.
They all laughed and clapped. They were happy I was on board. They were happy their movie could go ahead. They were happy they could report to their investors that they had a pyrotechnician.
I was happy I could go out and blow the living shit out of things again. Hell, it’s been almost solid months…
But first, some ground rules. If I’m going to be handling the pyros, and yes, I looked into the legality of all this. I sent off for the proper tests and accreditations, found that I was heavily overqualified, and brought into my blasting portfolio the necessary documents to be included in the credits of this mainstream extravaganza.
However, if I’m to be working on the set as a pyro wrangler, then I’m the boss. The hookin’ bull. You all know the drill. I am the Motherfucking Pro from Dover, and things that go boom are my sole bailiwick.
Everyone readily agreed as I set down some ground rules. In fact, one clear Saturday morning, I took my little crowd of lens-folk out to a local limestone quarry, which was now defunct, unfortunately.
As a bit of an aside, when I got here to university, I made myself known to the locals. I personally know every rancher, oilfield operator, and owner of sand pits, gravel pits, peach pits, limestone, granite, or serpentinite quarry. Ditto with the many farmers possessed of recalcitrant glacial erratics out in their fields of plowed Pleistocene glacial alluvium. I’ve already removed several large erratics for Farmer Bowen and in fact, his north 40 was going to be transformed into a movie set soon.
But I found some scenery that’s even better.
Nonetheless, today it’s “Let’s all get acquainted while Dr. Rock blows a lot of shit up for your education, edification, and entertainment” field trip.
We wheel the two 15-seater university vans into the old limestone quarry. I know the owner of the land, one stodgy old curmudgeon by the moniker of Augie Steinhauer. We get along famously. He doesn’t give two furry rat’s asses what I do out in this old quarry; as long as I keep him in the loop.
“However, Dr. Rock”, he says to me the other day over shots and beers I brought with to smooth the way, “If you could prune up that jagged east wall, I’d be most appreciative. My damned blighted fool of a brother-in-law goes in there to try and find crystals; and some moron sold him dynamite. I’m afraid that bonehead’s gonna bring down that entire east wall on his fuckin’ noggin. Plus, I could use a couple-few yards of gravel as well, if you know what I mean…”
“Sure, Augie”, I say as I lean over and hand him a lighter for the Cuban he filched out of my vest pocket. “Next Saturday, I’ll clean up that east wall and make a bunch of little ones out of big ones for you.”
I continued with the movie angle and he sort of glazed off into the ether. He wasn’t concerned with movies, but he desperately wanted a pond out back where he could water his herds of horses and dairy cows.
“OK, Augie”, I say, “Here’s the deal. You let me and the kids shoot their movie out on the south pasture, particularly on the oxbow in Steinhauer Creek you’ve got over there.”
An oxbow is a really tight bend in a river, creek, or brook. This one out in the south pasture covered about an acre or so, about equal to 43,560 square feet, 160 square rods, or 4.25x10-30 square parsecs. One acre is equivalent to 0.4047 hectares (4,047 square metres).
A nice size for a stock pond.
However, it was currently occupied by an unruly acre of sand, gravel, sneezewort, itchweed, and crawdads. Which was just the right place for all the miniatures to be placed and have some of the Suitmation guys go a-stomping.
See? Everyone benefits.
So, back to the quarry and I’ve brought along a traveling case of some of my more usual and unusual noisemakers.
Of course, I’ve got dynamite. I also have some home-brew nitro, complete with my special additive that makes it 75% less twitchy and 100% just as boomy. I’ve got PETN, RDX, a little gelignite, some Seismogel, a couple of different binaries, some C-4, of course, and all the adjuncts: Primacord, caps, superboosters, demo wire, my galvanometer, and Captain America with the big, shiny, red button.
Just the necessities, don’t ya’ know?
So, as usual, everyone in the quarry is wearing their PPEs, which I insisted upon and also which they thought were very cool and were destined to make it into the film one way or another.
I had set up a folding table with my traveling case, and a huge sign which read in great garish red letters, “BLASTING ZONE : HAPPY HOUR 1400-1800 HOURS”.
I let folks mill around and get the feel of a quarry. I pointed out some hazards, like loose rocks, talus slopes, and the occasional irritated rat, badger, and weasel.
They thought it was all great fun to be in the wide-open outdoors with some gonzo chap who wandered around wearing a very cool, highly polished aluminum hardhat, smoking a huge cigar, and wearing field boots, shorts, field vest, and a Hawaiian shirt in -30C weather.
I called the meeting to order and decided on some small demonstrations.
Blasting caps go “Pop”. Caps and super boosters go “BLAM”, Primacord goes “ZZZZIZIP! KERPOWIE!” and C-4 makes quarry walls echo and people’s ears ring.
However, before all this, I got their universal attention and ran through the usual pre-blast folderol.
I told them how to clear the compass.
North? CLEAR! And all that.
I told them how to look for any sort of organic lifeform that might be in danger’s path when the blast was initiated.
I told them all about “Look once, look twice. Then look again.”
I showed them the blaster’s airhorn and how it blares.
Then I told them all about “FIRE IN THE HOLE!”
With that, I explained we were good to go and I hit Captain America’s big, shiny, red button.
A 12-ton block of dolomitic limestone was rapidly and noisily reduced to a couple of cubic meters of nicely shattered high-magnesium limestone gravel.
I accepted applause munificently.
They were all scribbling like mad when I showed them the difference between 60% Extra Fast dynamite and 40% regular stick. They oohed! And ahhed!
When I set off a 2-kilo charge of C-4 to prune that east wall of the quarry, and like Shaka, the walls fell; they whooed.
They kept writing and asking for more demonstrations.
So, I took this as the opportunity to go big or go home.
Next was a solid 3-kilos of PETN. Great for really good vibrations. I gave them excitations…
Then, RDX, or “Torpedo-charge”. I decided to spread it around and clean up the talus slope at the foot of the east wall. With a couple of pounds of liquid binaries, I pruned that east wall back about 2 or three meters. Now, Mr. Steinhauer will have all the gravel he needs for some time to come.
Finally, the finale. I ran some primacord around an old, dead jack pine that’s been giving me the metaphorical red-ass since it’s always one way or another in my way. I placed some of my special nitro concoction around the base of its dead roots interwoven, bifurcating, and anastomosing through the cracks, fissures, and fractures of the dolomitic limestone.
Funny enough, 60 seconds later, that old jack pine was gone, as were its roots and the stranglehold it had on hanging a hard right turn and getting equipment to the backside of the quarry.
The crowd went wild.
I packed most everything up and was ready for Q&A time.
“Dr. Rock!”, Nguyễn asked, “Those were great effects. Can you make them smaller?”
“You know, no one’s ever asked me that before, “ I admitted in full Burt Gummer mode, “Sure. I suppose I could.”
“Can you show us?” he asked.
“I’m a little uncertain what you want me to do.”, I replied, “Smaller explosions? Why?”
“Oh, our miniatures”, he responded, “And our actors in the suits…”
“Of course”, I said, realization hitting, “But, I think it would be better to use bigger explosions and just add them in post-processing, don’t you? Little explosions have such a tinny sound to them. It really makes the effect look really cheesy.”
There was a lot of conversation and I realized that I was only the pyrotechnician, not the film producer. It’s their show, so I should do what they want, right?
In the end, it was decided to try both. We’d meet the next day out in the south pasture oxbow and they’d bring along their cameras, suit guy, and some miniatures. We’d blow them up as they thought; with little, itty-bitty explosions, then, afterward, we’d set off some proper blasts. They’d film them in slow motion, or fast motion, I forget which, but whatever, they’d run it eventually at normal speed and it would look all that much more momentous.
It’s all jargon and gobbledygook to me. I’ll make big booms. I’ll make little booms. Just tell me where and when.
So the next day, there’s a mocked-up generic city on the sand of the oxbow. Some guy in a pseudo-Godzilla suit, complete with shiny back fins, was going to stomp his way through town. They wanted smoke. They wanted explosions. The wanted fire. But they wanted it all in miniature.
Where’s the fun in that?
It was a bit of a wiring clusterfuck, but some balloons filled with gasoline, some with acetylene and some mighty light blasting caps later, we're ready for some test rolls.
Fakezilla starts stomping his way down the mini-avenue. Crunch goes one model car and I flick a switch. Flame erupts from the smooshed car and there’s a cheery little pop as the mini’s gas tank explodes. A model train gets derailed into a fuel depot and I had a pretty good time, in spite of myself, setting off a load of little charges.
POP!
PTWEU!
KER-pow!
All very cinematic and fake, if you asked me.
Then, there’s the finale of the scene where the monster is herded into a cul-de-sac of high rises by the wildly firing military. All the huge skyscrapers are blasted at their base to fall inward and bury the poor, misunderstood monster under huge piles of building rubble.
Those scenes were in the can, as it were, so we reset the set, as it were, with my take on what explosions and fire should really look like.
We watched the rushes on one screen and as the monster virtually trampled the buildings again, I set off my charges.
OK, a gallon of 100-octane flight fuel was a wee bit much perhaps, but damn, that lens flare of the refinery going up would have done J.J. Abrams proud.
I used superboosters, C-4, and primacord around the base of the skyscrapers and set them off one after another. I had timed it so they would first go into slow-motion explosions, then all about meet halfway and well, let gravity take the rest onto the monster to bury him; at least until the next scene.
They had to admit, the acoustics were much better with my explosions. They decided to go for a mixture of miniature explosions, primarily for close-ups, and my explosions, run in slow motion in the film, for the general carnage and destruction establishing shots and slightly more distant scenes.
The grand finale of the movie was the total destruction of the city, much to the alarm and remorse of the creature as well as all the inhabitants of Mini-City, SE Asia. They wanted total destruction. An ‘Age of Ultron’ finale-sort of blowing up the entire city and putting it into low earth orbit.
Which would work out well with my creation of a stock pond for the landowner.
I called in a few markers and had some of the geology department, who wanted some time drilling, to bring the VibraCore unit out to the Steinhauer place and meet me at the south 40 pasture.
We took several VibraCore cores cross-sectioning that classic oxbow. We extracted the 15-meter long cores and properly laid them into the appropriate core boxes.
We had great core recovery numbers, over 98%. I told them to leave the thin aluminum pipe sleeves in the oxbow as I was going to need that next week. The aluminum pipe had a wall thickness of slightly more than industrial-grade tinfoil, but since we buzzed them down some 45 feet or so, they’d serve as very useful conduits for the AFNO I planned to have pumped into the ground over the next couple of days.
Some of the guys in one or another of the oilfield service companies owed me a favor or 12 and had some leftover AFNO from a couple of jobs that screened out. Knowing how much of a pain in the ass the paperwork is for returning unused explosives, they naturally turned to me and asked if I wanted any part of it.
I sent them maps and specific details of what I needed to be done. The AFNO was to be cut to slurry grade so it would flow easier; basically, all they needed to do was add a bit of extra diesel. Then, they could just hook up a Coflexip hose and pump the slurrified explosive down one or more of the 4 aluminum pipes that we had vibrated down to clay level.
This worked a treat, as the first truck, and only one I had thought, pumped away over 1,500 pounds of AFNO.
Told me “It flowed like melted butter”.
So much so, that back at base, word got around that I was hosting a home for wayward explosives. Over the next week, no less than 6 trucks had come over to Mr. Steinhauer’s south pasture and emptied the remnant slurries out of their tank trucks.
Free explosives! All well and good, but I was pleased with the first bill of lading. The second was not too terribly disconcerting. The third, fourth, and fifth gave me pause. By number seven, my calculator was having a meltdown as I realized they had pumped over 8,500 pounds of ANFO away and it was all sitting there waiting for an initiator.
Luckily, the oxbow was basically an acre-wide bowl or more precisely, basin, first lined with nicely impermeable clay. Filling that is was the 50 or so vertical feet of fine fluvial sands, gravels, and conglomerates. So, through thorough testing, I found that no ANFO had leaked out of the closed oxbow, but I was still standing on 4.5 tons of deflagrating explosive.
Now AFNO may be a crackerjack explosive, but it’s lazy as hell. It needs one hell of a good short, sharp shock to initiate. As I noted, it’s a deflagrating, not detonating, explosive. I told my film guys that there was a “fair amount” of explosives under the place where the set was to be placed and where filming of the finale was going to happen.
They decided that if I said it was safe, then they could take that to the bank. There really was no danger, it’s not like they’re tromping around on nitro or anything so twitchy. Still, I made certain to shield all the smaller explosions at the surface just to be extra sure. Sheets of corrugated tin floored the set, so we were doubly insulated from any untoward accidents.
The shoot of the almost-finale went off without a hitch. Buildings were destroyed, refineries were blown up, there were cars stomped and trains derailed. It was all filmed with multiple cameras, multiple types of cameras: slow-motion, thermal, high definition, and the like.
They were shooting hundreds of miles equivalent of whatever the hell they store film on nowadays. We all sat in the gazebo that had been set-up off-site so we could review the rushes and re-film any scenes that didn’t quite come up to snuff.
There were a couple of scenes that needed some re-dos, but now the set was mooshed well and proper, now they needed to be really blown the fuck up so we can proceed right to the ultimate shot where I set off the AFNO.
Before that, but after filming some smaller explosions in the ersatz city, I instructed everyone to get back.
Way back.
I had them set up cameras at 1 kilometer.
I had them set up cameras at 500 meters.
I had them set up unmanned cameras 50 meters from the oxbow.
They groused, the bitched, and they kvetched; but they listened.
I went over the safety dance with the whole crew right after lunch and before any of them took off for distant locales. I impressed upon them that this was going to be a one-hit-wonder.
There are no re-takes.
“But Dr. Rock”, Fukutsuchi asked me, “Why not?”
“Several reasons, Mr. Yoshimatsu”, I replied, “Chief among them is that it’s going to be a huge explosion and by this time tomorrow, the only thing left of the set will be a lake.”
“Oh, jolly joke Dr. Rock!”, he replies, not realizing that I was quite serious.
“Live and learn, Herr Yoshimatsu”, I mused quietly to myself.
We spent the next couple of hours filming some small, infill explosions. Since we had some time to waste while the director waited for the ‘perfect time, right when the sun eclipsed the treetops’, the guys out on the remote cameras were getting antsy.
“Camera 1 to base! Camera 1 to base! Systems status. What’s happening?” came a frantic call.
“Base to Camera 1, hold your water. It’ll be a little while.” Came the response.
“Camera 2 to base. I need relief, right now. Can’t wait.” Came another frantic call.
“Base to camera 2. Use the pucklebrush 20 meters to your north. Then get back on camera!” Came the exasperated reply.
“Camera 3 to base! Camera 3 to base! I’m being attacked by cows. What should I do?”
“Relax. Guernsey cows aren’t carnivores. Give them a good tip and be ready to roll!” came our reply.
Novices.
Finally, time and tide aligned and the director decided it was showtime. After radio checks and to ensure Camera 3 wasn’t consumed by an errant Black Angus or Hereford, everyone was ready and rolling.
“3…2…1…Firing!”
“Well, that was different”, I replied once I found the director and disinterred him.
Seems that Late Pleistocene clays are a great refractory material. The 4.5 tons of ANFO went off without a hitch. A good portion of the blast energy went up. A bit went sideways, but a fair amount went down, struck the impermeable clay layer, and rebounded upward with a newfound zeal.
In other words, there was a smoking crater left that measured some 10 or so meters deep and with a nominal diameter of approximately 27 meters.
Great huge throbbing clouds of sand, gravel, and creek mud were thrown, well, one fuck of a large distance from ground zero. Camera 1 at one kilometer distant reported dodging high-velocity dirt clods immediately after the explosion.
Fully 21 cameras caught the explosion from an amazing number of angles and in a variety of styles. Infrared, false color, high-speed, 3-D…the whole Megilla.
The director was incredibly excited once his hearing returned. He was in the gazebo, once we unburied it and set it up again, seems they can’t handle shock waves worth a shit.
However, he was slavering over the footage the different cameras had recovered.
“This will be great for the finale! We can use this shot here, and cut to the infrared, then cut over to …” and so on and so on.
I pulled out a flask, took a healthy tot, and sparked a fresh cigar.
“Yeah. It was a good gig.” I muttered to no one in particular.
I was pleased to see that Mr. Steinhauer’s pond was already filling. Should be good for rock bass and crappie by spring.
So, we packed everything up, replaced some of our smaller divots and headed back to our normal lives. Me at the Geology/PE Department and them at the Humanities ward or wherever the hell these characters hang out.
A few days later, I get a call. Seems that a letter had arrived for me via the Film Department.
Would I want them to bring it to my office?
“Sure”, I replied, “I’m here all day”.
A short while later, Ya, Pang, and Geng drop by and present me a letter, handwritten, all the way from Hollywood, California.
I zip the envelope open and see it’s on the stationary of one of the larger, meaning that I’ve actually heard of it, production companies out there on the Whack Coast.
The letter, in brief, was thanking me for my participation in the student’s film. The author of the letter said he was particularly impressed with the “reality” and “impressive results” of the practical pyrotechnic effects; particularly the film’s finale.
“Well, that’s nice”, I smiled quietly to myself.
Then I read the closing comments.
“We are looking into getting our pyrotechnicians blaster’s permits and having them spend some time in local oilfields.”
Guess my reputation precedes me here as well.
“We are also looking into what brands of vodka and cigars are preferred there in [redacted state].
Very truly yours,
James F. Cameron.”

The Premier League is back this weekend, which means a resurgence in Match Betting. Here is my 3 Part Mega Guide to making £500 for several hours work, and then making £500- £1000 on a monthly basis.

So a lot of you will know that I regularly post guides and tips about match betting, However since the same questions always come up in the comments, I decided to make one big, very thorough Mega Guide in order to eliminate as many doubts as possible for you guys. Like I said before, This guide is a handy way to sort out a month's rent for 5 or 6 hours work, so I really hope it can be of use to someone. Anyway, Here it is:
PART 1: MATCH BETTING EXPLAINED; HOW TO MAKE £500 IN 5/6 HOURS
Having done my research and having been able to turn a really nice profit in such a short time, I wanted to make a short guide to eliminate people's doubts and simplify things a little. Since it really doesn't take a lot of time to hit that £500 profit mark, it's a shame not to try it out. Anyway, Here it goes:
I was sceptical as hell about Match betting because a friend showed me the Facebook groups and it just looked like a giant gambling pyramid scheme. It turns out there is a decent chunk of change to be made from it, you just need to follow the guides and never ever actually gamble with your money.
Never ever Gamble? Yes That's right, you are going to be using Gambling sites to complete the various offers, but the whole idea behind match betting is that every time you "make a bet", you match that same bet on the exchange. So for example, if I bet £10 for Real Madrid to Win on the Bookie Site at odds of 2.5, I then also make a Matched bet on the Exchange (This is a separate site such as Smarkets or Betfair) where I bet for Real Madrid not to win at odds of 2.5 (or as close as I can get to those odds). In this way I am covered in all outcomes, and it allows me to fulfill the requirements of the bookies offer (For example Bet £10 and get £30 in Free bets)
What's the difference between the Bookie Site and the Exchange? On the Exchange Site you are basically being the Bookie and just like a Bookie, you have liability. If I bet £10 and my bet wins at odds of 2.5 then I win £25, so the bookies liability for this bet is £15, the extra money that they would have to give me if I win. There are calculators on the Match betting sites which you can use to calculate what Liability you need to enter on the exchange each time you make your matched bet. There is also software to help you find what games have the closest odds on both the bookies and the exchange, which is very important.
What do I do when I get my free bets? It's the same process again, You find a game that has very close odds on both the bookies and the exchange ( You can do this by eye or by using odds matching software. A good site with this software is called OddsMonkey). Only this time when you use the calculator to work out your liability, you will set it to "Free bets SNR" so it knows you are not using real money. It will tell you how much Liability to use in the exchange and off you go.
How does this make me money? The fact that you have a free bet to use is what makes you money, For example a £30 free bet at odds of 5.5 in the bookies will win you £135 (30x 4.5, because the original free bet stake of £30 is not returned to you). Now let's say that the closest odds I can find in the Exchange for the same game are 6.0, I will need a liability of £112.50 to match my free bet in the bookies ( I use the calculator on oddsmonkey to work this out)
£135- 112.50 = £22.50 in Profit.
Alternatively if my bet on the exchange wins, I will lose the free bet of £30 (but it's not actually a loss to me because It's not real money) and I will win £22.50 on the exchange. Either way, I make a Profit of £22.50
What about providing card details? You can use a separate, virtual bank account for all your match betting, In this way your main banking information is not shared with any of the sites you sign up to. A good one to use is Monzo, the app is easy to use and it only takes 5 minutes to open an account. It's free to open an account and last I checked they actually have a referral scheme where you get £5 if you sign up through a referral link.
Non Referral here: https://monzo.com/
Where can I learn to do it? There are some sites that you have to pay a monthly subscription to but I found one called Team Profit that is free and has a full guide of all the different offers you can complete.
I worked my way down through the list of offers, nice and handy, and having completed 20 offers at 15 minutes per offer, I came out at £470 for 5 hours total of work.
If you are new to this site and are opening a free account I would really appreciate if you use my Referral (£10)
Here is the non referral link to the page with all the offers: https://www.teamprofit.com/welcome-offers-list
TLDR: You do not need to "gamble" to match bet, in fact by definition, the bet you make is "matched" on the exchange, so it is not a gamble in any sense.

PART 2: MAKING £500-£1000 EVERY MONTH.
You may sometimes see people commenting saying they have made a lot more money since finishing the welcome offers, £1000-£1500 a month and such, but never saying exactly how...
Personally I have made a lot more profit every month since I finished the welcome offers, Usually around the £1000 per month mark.
People say that Match betting drys up once you finish the welcome offers but this is simply not true, it's a matter of being more organised and checking your email for new offers, while also checking the Reload Offers section on Team Profit every morning (Takes literally 5 minutes)
Below is an Example from last month where I made £300 in one week. Bare in mind that the amount you make weekly will vary with the amount of sport that is on, but as long as there's sport, you will always be able to earn. This example is simply to show you the potential Match Betting has long after you've completed the Welcome offers:
Here's exactly how I did it:
Coral: Money back as a free bet up to £50 if your team is ahead in the first half but doesn't win the match in the end: Matched 5 Premier League games, 3 were successful. I received three £50 free bets which I matched and turned into £130 profit risk free. £130 in 30 minutes
William Hill: Money Back as Cash if your horse comes 2nd- 2 of the 6 horses I matched came 2nd, I was also able to make a profit by just matching the bets because my odds were higher on the bookies side by using the Happy Hour odds (between 12pm-1pm, 3 horses with enhanced odds) and also the 3 daily bet boosts on Horse raising( to boost my odds on another 3 horses). £20 in 5 minutes
Paddy Power: Money Back up to £10 if Horse comes 2nd 3rd or 4th, Matched the horse with the lowest odds and sure enough it came 3rd, got my £10 free bet. £8 in 3 minutes
Skybet: Money Back as cash up to £10 if Horse comes 2nd 3rd or 4th, Matched the horse with the lowest odds and sure enough it came 3rd, got my £10. £9.50 in 3 minutes
Skybet: Wednesday Super odds: Matched the three super odds on the exchange and due to the difference in odds (If the odds on the bookies are greater than those for same bet on the exchange you are automatically profiting). £10 in 3 minutes
Boylesports: £10 Free bet if your bet loses(Premier League Match): £8 in 3 minutes
Paddy Power 2up: An offer where you get paid out early if your time goes up by 2 goals, the profit varies depending on what the odds on the exchange are when you back the team you orignally lay against, but this offer can make you a lot of profit (You will need to download the team profit calculator app and use the early payout calculator). Last week it Made me £35. £35 in 5 minutes
Novibet: Deposit £100 and get a £50 free bet. Very easy because you just have to deposit the money, get your free bet, withdraw your £100 straight away, then match the free bet on the exchange. £40 in 5 minutes
Coral: Bet 3x £5 in play and get a £5 free bet-Availble everyday. Just match these at half time so the odds are stable, Make sure you also place mug bets every couple of days if you do this one a lot, I would reccomend doing it 5 times a week tops. £20 in 30 minutes
Paddy Powe Skybet Bet clubs: Bet 5x £10 bets in a week to get a £10 free bet with Paddy Power. Bet £25 in a week to get a £5 free bet with Skybet. £10 in 30 minutes

Above you can see the reality of making profit long after you've finished the welcome offers, but it comes down to organisation.
So in Summary, these are my 6 Rules for making a monthly Profit:
(1) Check your email daily for offers, many times bookies will send you personalised offers just for you, and these can be very VERY generous.
(2) Check the Reload Offers section on Team profit every morning to see what offers are available that day.
(3) Offers change all the time- Don't let this put you off. There are always new offers to replace the previous ones. There are also Weekly/Daily offers ( Coral £50 free bet, Paddy power refund if 2nd 3rd 4th, William hill money back if second, Paddy Power 2up, Bet clubs etc) which are constantly available when sport is on.
(4) Make Mug bets ( Explained more in PART 3)
(5) It all adds up. Don't think "It's only a £5 free bet, not worth matching". I get around 15 £5 free bets every week, If I ignored them all I would be down £200 at the end of the month.
(6) Don't spend all day at it. Once you've checked your email and reload offers, you know what offers you need to do that day. Set alarms so you can make your matches before each event starts, but don't spend ages sitting at your computer waiting for "the perfect match", for your own mental health, set a time limit of 1 hour per day at most.

PART 3: FAQ
(1) How much money do you need to put in to start?
When you go onto the offers page on Team Profit after signing up, there is an option to start with £25, £50 or £100. You can select one of those three options And it will show you a different number of offers according to your selection. I started with £100 because I wanted to get things moving a little quicker. I did this so that I would have enough money for liability to do a bigger earning offer at the start. One year later, and having see the potential for profit, I keep around £500 floating between my accounts. This is useful for large sporting events where I may want to do around 10- 15 offers in a short time.
(2) Is it in anyway going to impact my credit score?
Using gambling sites doesn't effect your credit score unless you borrow money to fund it. I do all my match betting through a virtual bank (Monzo) in order to keep that stuff out of my main bank on the off chance that it raises any eyebrows. You'll be using Monzo like a cash card, where you can only spend the money you put into the card. This is why it won't affect your credit score, because you wouldn't be taking out an overdraft or using credit for example.
(3) What is Mug Betting?
Mug Betting is where you make bets that have no relation to any offer or promotion in order to appear like a regular punter. If you are doing a lot of offers on one site, it's a good idea to make mug bets in order to avoid being "gubbed" (Gubbed is a term for when bookies realise you are only taking advantadge of promotions and close your account permanantly). Of course you will also Match these "Mug bets" on the exchange. Make 1-2 Mug bets on Each site every week(On the sites you are using a lot for offers and promotions) in order to ensure your accounts last longer than 1-2 years. I have been matching for well over a year and have never been gubbed. Take the extra couple of minutes to Mug bet, it's worth it.
More on Mug betting here

Ok so that's everything I can think of to share with you guys, The link to sign up to your free Team Profit account is at the bottom of Part 1 of this guide.
TLDR: You do not need to "gamble" to match bet, in fact by definition, the bet you make is "matched" on the exchange, so it is not a gamble in any sense.
I really hope this guide will help someone out because It really is a solid way to sort out a months rent for quite a modest amount of work.
Thanks for Reading.

Match betting doesn't finish with the Welcome offers. Here is exactly how I make £1000 a month.

I often see people commenting saying they have made a lot more money since finishing the welcome offers, £1000-£1500 a month and such, but never saying exactly how...
Personally I have made a lot more profit every month since I finished the welcome offers, Usually around the £1000 per month mark.
People say that Match betting drys up once you finish the welcome offers but this is simply not true, it's a matter of being more organised and checking your email for new offers, while also checking the Reload Offers section on the site you use for match betting.

Last week for Example I made £300 from reload offers, This is exactly how:
Coral: Money back as a free bet up to £50 if your team is ahead in the first half but doesn't win the match in the end: Matched 5 Premier League games, 3 were successful. I received three £50 free bets which I matched and turned into £130 profit risk free. £130 in 30 minutes

Paddy Powe Skybet Bet clubs: Bet 5x £10 bets in a week to get a £10 free bet with Paddy Power. Bet £25 in a week to get a £5 free bet with Skybet. £10 in 30 minutes

So it's 5 things:
(1) Check your email daily (takes litertally 2 minutes)
(2) Check the Reload Offers on the site you use, I use Team profit (because it's free and just as good as any paid membership site) Here is a link to their reload offers which they update every morning: https://www.teamprofit.com/reload-offers-dashboard
(3) Offers change all the time- Don't let this put you off. There are always new offers to replace the previous ones. There are also Weekly/Daily offers ( Coral £50 free bet, Paddy power refund if 2nd 3rd 4th, William hill money back if second, Paddy Power 2up etc) which are constantly available.
(4) If you are using the same offer a lot on one site ,make mug bets. For example the Coral £50 free bet offer is availble on literally every premier league match, if you do just that offer 10 times in a week, you will be gubbed unless you have other bets on your account.
(5) It all adds up. Don't think "It's only a £5 free bet, not worth matching". I get around 15 £5 free bets every week, If I ignored them all I would be down £200 at the end of the month.

If you have any questions don't hesisate to ask, Thanks for reading.

EDIT: I Have received quite a few pms asking how match betting works, so if you are wondering the same Here is a guide I made last month explaining exactly how to do it. Hope this helps

Guide to earning £200+ with match betting

I intend to write a far more detailed guide to match betting without using an odds matching tool like P.A. over the next couple of weeks, this guide will be better suited to those who have zero knowledge of match betting

What is Match Betting?

Match betting is a LEGAL, RISK FREE & TAX FREE way of earning Money. You earn by taking advantage of the various sign up and "reload" offers that bookies provide new and existing customers. For example, when you sign up to William Hill they have an offer of "Deposit £10, get a £20 free bet" You can use this bet and then lay against it at a betting exchange
For example:
Bookie: Bet Chelsea to WIN
Exchange: Bet Chelsea to NOT WIN (It should be noted than when you make a lay at a betting exchange you're covering all other options, so by saying you think Chelsea will NOT win you're saying they will either lose or draw, anything except win)
So now that you've placed them, these two bets will cancel each other out, resulting in you breaking even (or losing a little bit of cash) after this initial bet you will be credited with your free bet. Now, repeat this process again - except this time it's not your own money being used to place the bet! So you get to keep the profits.

How to get started

The best way (I believe) to get started is to sign up for the free trial on Profit Accumulator | Non and follow their step by step instructions. Using their site you can claim two of the offers and earn £45. During the trial you will have the basics of match betting explained to you and once you have earned from your free trial you can use the profit to upgrade to a Platinum account(£22.99/month or £150/year). If you become a platinum member you will have access to hundreds of offers and dozens of extra guides to help you on your journey. When I started doing this a few years back I only used £50 (That I earned doing surveys) as my starting float, however a bigger pot of £100 is advised to help you work through offers quicker.
If you're going to get started with match betting, I recommend you take a photo of the following: Passport or Driving License, bank card used to deposit money, and a recent utility bill - As the bookies fraud prevention teams occasionally ask for these (I've only had it happen once, but it does happen)

Review of the best Match Betting Sites

Profit Accumulator | Non
Profit Accumulator is the oldest and largest match betting community out there, with over 20,000 members on its private forum. Their guides are very simple to follow, with text guides, video guides and a list of offers for first time match betters to sign up to. The Profit Accumulator team are also the only match betting site which has a dedicated customer support line.
Profit Accumulator have also developed a lot of tools over the past year or so, including Oddsmatching, which find you the right games to maximise your profit, the match catcher which is used betting on the horses, The Acca catcher which is for people who’ve been doing this for years and now use accumulators to make most of their profit, a profit tracker. More recently they’ve created the Early Pay out calculator the Offers Calendar and the Match Betting Diary
Cost: FREE TRIAL! which will earn you £45 and then £17.99 after that

Odds Monkey | Non
OddsMonkey used to be my favourite sites until Profit Accumulator pulled slightly ahead of them. They’re very user friendly & focus more on newbies to the game. They’re the original creator of the oddsmatcher, which finds the perfect bets for you to make maximum profit.
Once again they offer written & video tutorials for people of all abilities and experience. As well as a huge community to offer you support. Odds Monkey is the only site where you can get 1 on 1 training by one of their seasoned professionals, simply pick your time slow and you can talk to someone who’s been match betting for years.
OddsMonkey probably offer more tools than any other sites, including: OddsMatcher, Racing Matcher, Each way matcher, Acca matcher, Acca finder, dutch search, tennis matcher and more.

Heads&Heads | Non
Head&Heads is relative new comer to the game, founded in 2016 it is run by one man, however that one man is some type of match betting machine sent from the future to help us get back at the bookies, it seems to update with reloads and new offers quicker than the two sites above who have large teams.
Their dashboard is clean, cut and simple making it very clear how much you’ve earned and where. They also have the oddchecker, a tracking table of every bet you’ve made, which is directly linked to their bet form. In my opinion heads&heads is the best site for more experienced match betting users.

Being gubbed & mug bets

Mug bets - Ok, so match betting is completely legal, however, Most bookies aren't too keen on you only using them for offers. So it's highly recommended to place occasional "mug bets" - What's a mug bet? It's basically a normal (small) bet which is nothing to do with your match betting. A mug bet is simply a small bet to make you look like a regular customer, once again Profit Accumulator | Non has got you covered on the best ways to place mug bets. They advise following a cycle: Qualifying bet, free bet, mug bet, withdraw profits.
Being gubbed - This is when a bookie has figured out that you're only match betting and using their offers, the bookie can limit your account to only making small bets, or not getting any offers. You can get back in good stead with them by placing non-offer bets but this could take time and still never amount to anything.

Slot Offers

These offers aren't required to make a healthy profit, but they can be a good earner for you. Slot offers come in many different flavours, and you have to take each one for its merits, some are simply a few free spins and sometimes you have large wagers involved for your free spins. People are often put off by slots because a lot of the time they’re not completely risk-free. It is up to you to weigh up the value of doing them as you have the chance to win big from doing these, you have the potential to make upwards of £100 from a single offer, but like I said... not for everyone. Profit Accumulator | Non will advise you about the risk factor for each slot offer. It will either be no risk (so for examples and offers where the bookies will give you your money back – wager £5 and be credited £5 if you lose it all) or a low risk offer (which is what most slot offers are) where you have to wager a larger amount but the potential earnings are a lot higher. They will also tell you which slots you are best using, unless the offer is for a selected slot only

Jargon Buster

When you start your Match betting journey you'll notice lots of terms thrown around, if you're unsure of them ask me and I’ll try to explain. Here are some of the common terms:
Lay Bet: This is the bet you lay in the exchange against your bookie bet. This bet covers you for all options that are not what the bet is backing – e.g. Bet is to WIN; the lay bet will cover LOSS and DRAW.
Qualifying Bet: This is when you place a bet to qualify for an offer, for example if the offer was "bet £10 get a £20 free bet" then £10 is your qualifying bet.
Mug Bet: This is a small bet placed to convince the bookie you're a regular punter
Gubbed: When a bookie bans or limits your account, this usually happens due to a lack of mug bets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Matched Betting a scam?
A: NO! Everything is tried & tested, supported by various forums all over the internet and has been features on the BBC, The Guardian and various other news outlets... it's legit!

Q: Is Matched Betting Gambling
A: NO! With Gambling you have a risk, Match betting has no risks because you cover every outcome - the only risk is human error.

Q: Is Matched Betting really risk free?
A: Yes and No, If you just follow the instructions for the offers then you will face no risk. However if you decide to use slot offers then there is a slight risk associated with it, but that's your choice you aren't required to do the slot offers.

Q: How is Matched Betting tax-free?
A: As it's considered gambling you don't pay any tax on your winnings.

Q: Will Matched Betting affect my credit rating?
A: NO! But bookies will leave an imprint on your credit file. This is just an identity check to make sure that you are genuine.

Q: Do I need a separate bank account for Matched Betting?
A: NO, But it is recommended, simply because seeing lots of deposits and withdrawals to casinos can look unappealing on your bank account. Most mortgage companies want to see 3 months worth of bank statements - but if you have 10 bookmakers on them every week it might look like you have a problem.
TLDR: Use the free trial from Profit Accumulator | Non to make your first £45 from the bookies (Risk Free).

Rankings (26/31 Rankers Reporting)

Ranking (avg) Team Delta Overall Record Record This Week Comments
1 (1.03) Tampa Bay Lightning - 55-13-4 3-0-0 I’m not really sure what to talk about this week. We beat Washington in a close game. We smoked Toronto. Jon Cooper probably deserves more credit than he will probably get in voting for the Jack Adams. Actually rewind to those games against Toronto and Washington. Those games probably demonstrate the difference between Tampa Bay this versus last year. Of the twelve goals scored in those games seven on them came from the third and fourth line. The emergence of Anthony Cirelli as dominate third line center has changed everything. And for all the crap the fanbase can sometimes give Killorn in the offensive zone there is no denying that he too has been a force defensively. When you are able to depend on those lines, it keeps the top lines fesh. Kucherov plays a full 3:20 less than McDavid per game and 2:40 less than Kane. You can only imagine how many points he could have put with that extra time.
2 (3.59) Boston Bruins - 43-20-9 1-2-0 Not a great week for the Bs: with Zero points on the recent road trip against the Penguins, the Blue Jackets, and the Jets. The game at home against Columbus was a solid effort; even though it went to OT: 37+63=💯❤️️! A shame McAvoy and Panarin didn't drop the gloves again for Conor McGregor. Thanks for the free Proper Twelve whiskey on St. Paddy's Day Conor but remember Bs: have fun but not too much fun on St. Paddy's Day! The team is starting to get healthy with DeBrusk playing again and Johansson and Pastrnak expected back in the lineup this coming week. Of interesting note is that is in the Columbus game at home, Butch shortened the bench as the game went on, including OT; McAvoy clocked 26:34 TOI, Marchand [21:44] and Krejci [21:07] had +21m, and Backes had only 7:55 TOI. The Bruins were fortunate that the Leafs also slumped this week to maintain home ice over them as the inevitable rematch between the two teams looms next month.
3 (4.41) San Jose Sharks - 43-21-8 2-2-0 With 3 of the only remaining 10 games against teams currently in the playoffs there is a lot of chances to gain points in the standings. Unfortunately those 3 games could decide Pacific Division dominance.
4 (4.76) Calgary Flames 2 44-21-7 2-1-0 In our four game losing streak we had a grand total of 5 goals. With our 3 game winning streak we had 20 goals. And yet again we lost another matchup with a 2-1 score. Its not the level of goalie play that concerns me right now but the fact the offense seems all or nothing.
5 (6.79) Washington Capitals - 42-23-7 1-2-0
6 (7.9) Winnipeg Jets 1 42-25-4 2-1-0 Post-deadline Jets are a team with a fun forecheck. Watching Jets hockey is fun again, and less confusing. Please, injured reserve, return us our top 2 defenseman for the playoffs!
7 (8.07) Toronto Maple Leafs -3 43-24-5 1-3-0 Bruins in 5.
8 (8.38) New York Islanders - 42-23-7 3-1-0 The Isles had huge wins vs CBJ and MON and got a ROW @MIN to get 6/8 points for the week. They are playing better now than they have been as of late but the offense still has not been great. They broke an 0/25 PP streak and are hitting lots of posts and getting unlucky, but if they positively regress at the right time things could go their way.
9 (9.41) Nashville Predators 2 41-27-5 2-1-0 There has been a vocal minori- okay, probably majority of the Preds fanbase that has been critical of Turris' play for the greater part of the season now. It seems the coaching staff may now have similar sentiments, as what started as a demotion to the 4th line turned into 2 straight healthy scratches this week. That same vocal majority of the fanbase would also be very quick to point to the results of those games as vindication for their feelings. While pinning the success of a team to the absence of one player would be a bit hasty, hopefully it has at least been a positive message received for Turris. On the other end of the spectrum, Arvidsson is on fire, breaking the franchise record for quickest to 30 goals and becoming the second Pred to have multiple 30 G seasons (Forsberg being the other). He's only second behind Ovechkin in G/GP at .63, and with 9 games remaining it seems he'll break the Preds single season record of 33. If only he hadn't missed 24 games...
10 (10.21) Carolina Hurricanes - 39-25-7 2-1-0 Trying our best to hold onto that wildcard one position luckily our schedule cannot be that bad right? looks at schedule Fuck.
11 (10.93) Vegas Golden Knights -2 40-27-5 2-0-0 Imagine if we had Mark Stone at the start of the season. With only one loss since his arrival we might on the same HISTORIC pace as Tampa
12 (11.34) Pittsburgh Penguins - 39-24-10 2-1-1 A stolen game against Washington followed by a disassembly of the Sabers was unfortunately partially undone by an utter disappointment against St. Louis and ANOTHER last-minute choke job against Philadelphia. I guess we payed for the goalie karma we used in the first two games this week with the last two, as Binnington and Hart stole those games. The schedule this week is at least Metro-light, with only Carolina to deal with. Fun fact: We still haven't played Nashville this year.
13 (12.21) Columbus Blue Jackets 1 40-28-4 2-1-1 Panic in the fanbase has subsided for now. If the Jackets stay at .500 the rest of the season, we're sitting at an 86% chance to make the playoffs. The new additions have finally started clicking, so I can see this team hitting at least .500. If they go 6-4 in their remaining games, the chances go up to 96%.
14 (13.52) St. Louis Blues -1 37-27-8 1-2-1 The Blues continue to do well against good teams and falter against bad teams. Getting shutout by Ottawa is a very bad look, but at the same time we are still pretty comfortably looking at a playoff spot. Would prefer to finish strong and hope Tarasenko comes back swinging
15 (14.72) Dallas Stars 1 37-29-6 2-1-1 Alright Dobby. Get it done.
16 (15.17) Arizona Coyotes 1 36-30-6 2-1-1
17 (16.24) Montreal Canadiens -2 37-28-7 1-2-0 If you wanted a masterclass of how to not make the playoffs look no further than the Canadiens. Dear lord where has our offense gone.
18 (18.69) Philadelphia Flyers - 35-29-8 2-2-0 Hey I actually remembered this before midnight EST, are you proud of me yet dad? We kinda sucked this week, but weirdly. Lost to the Leafs in a crazy game , lost to the caps in a sad game BUT SO HELP ME WE BEAT THE PENS IN A COMEBACK GAME THAT WAS REALLY HYPE TO SEE THE LAST 10 MINUTES OF. It was a really good goaltending game, but Elite Sniper Sean "Actually Patrice "'Selke"' Bergeron" Couturier won us the game with 3 seconds left in OT. Carter Hart is back from injury, and we really just dont wanna be faded until the last day of the season. Hail Gritty
19 (18.79) Minnesota Wild - 34-30-9 1-2-1 The win and OTL against the Rangers and Islanders, respectively, ring hollow after that "performance" against Dallas to start the week. This team has scored the first goal in only 26 of 73 games this season and has played from behind far too long. Not sure if it's an empty gas tank, injuries piling up, and/or the team just quitting on Boudreau, but the Wild would need a miracle to squeak into the postseason and extend their playoff participation trophy streak to seven straight years. A hearty stick tap to the Whitecaps, though, for winning their first Isabel Cup and reminding fans what winning hockey looks like.
20 (19.45) Chicago Blackhawks 2 32-30-9 3-0-0 The Blackhawks have won 5-straight games to keep their dim playoff hopes alive. Corey Crawford capped off this week with a 48-save shutout against the Canadiens (a career high for saves, and ties a franchise record for most saves in a shutout). He has allowed only 3 goals against in his last 4 starts. Brendan Perlini has scored 8G, 2A in 7 games since being a healthy scratch, including 5G, 2A this week (highlighted by his first NHL hat trick). The once hot PP has cooled off and is now 0-for-16 in the last 7 games. Also, with their shutout win over the Canadiens, for the first time this season, the Blackhawks won a game in which Patrick Kane failed to record a point (they were previously 0-11-2, including a regulation loss in the game he missed).
21 (20.41) Florida Panthers - 32-28-12 2-1-0
22 (21.03) Colorado Avalanche -2 31-29-12 1-2-0 Rough week for the Avs and now they either need to win out or need help from other teams. Not controlling your destiny sucks, but we blew our chances of that back in December - early February. The Good News Mackinnon is flaming with two more multi-point games this week and hit back to back 90 point seasons. The problem this week was finishing and playing a full 60 min game. The good news is the devils game was great effort all around and we hope to take it into St. Paul Tuesday. Speaking of 4 Huge games this week all basically must win. We face the Wild and Stars on the road then have a home and home with Chicago. All Central teams in the wildcard race, all 4 point games. The playoffs start this week, and we are already down two games.
23 (22.83) Edmonton Oilers 1 32-33-7 2-2-0 Said it last week. The Oilers are roaring since having a healthy roster, but it's too little, too late. The Oilers were average this past week with regulation losses to Vegas and the Devils likely have ended the slimmest of playoff chances. Now we need those hot teams around us to start slipping, but even then it might be too late. While wins against Rangers and Yotes have done us well, the Yotes still got a point from that OT win. The stars must align now.
24 (24.66) Buffalo Sabres -1 31-32-9 1-3-0 Some say that Jack was suspended for two games; I say that he didn't miss any after all. Now, I love three straight shutout losses as much as the next guy, but I also enjoy seeing my team score goals. Oh, and seeing my team compete in the playoffs, that's fun too. But whatever Buffalo, you do you.
25 (24.97) Vancouver Canucks 1 30-32-10 2-0-1 The team continues to truck along at an even pace down the stretch, and despite some Pettersson highlights there is little to suggest the late season slide is really going to turn around.
26 (25.21) Anaheim Ducks 1 30-35-9 3-1-0 Are we good again? No. But the idea of Carlyle less coaching has given the team a good bit of pride and they are beating playoff bubble teams. It was nice to know you, better draft pick lottery odds. In other news, Corey Perry scored twice in a game. He now has four whole goals this year. I predict he scores 20 next season. Kesler has been missing since his 1001st game.
27 (26.21) New York Rangers -2 28-31-13 0-3-1 Toughhhh week. Not a single win. Mika's still putting up points and Georgiev's playing his ass off. Lemieux's been a great addition as well, but we just couldn't put it all together this week. We got wrecked by McDrai in overtime on Monday. Got demolished by the refs in Vancouver on Wedenesday. Steamrolled by the Flames on Friday. To cap it all off we got stomped by the Wild on Saturday. Not a fun week, but hey St. Patrick's Day is an excuse to drink our sorrows away!
28 (27) New Jersey Devils - 27-37-9 2-2-0 Man tanking is something I'll never get used to. I always want the boys to go out and win, but it's just so hard to justify bothering when the only logical thing to do is tank. The battle of heart vs mind rages on.
29 (28.17) Detroit Red Wings - 25-37-10 1-2-0
30 (29.59) Los Angeles Kings - 25-38-8 0-2-0 I don’t really care for baseball...but is it baseball season yet?
31 (30.31) Ottawa Senators - 25-41-6 2-1-0 For as shit as this season has been at least we beat the leafs.

Chapter 48
If there was a word that could describe the Kraltnin race anyone with any true understanding would probably use one specific word without hesitation.
Loyalty.
The Whites were easy to understand. Smaller and less intelligent, they seek the guidance of their betters and serve as well as they can. No matter who those betters were. They would choose a Kraltnin to follow first if possible of course, but to serve a qqearqmaster well would allow a White to find both worth and pride.
For the Blacks, it was perhaps less clear, but one thing was true of the Black Alphas. They served themselves. They acted with a purpose to improve their own lot, to gather wealth and power. Black Kraltnin were certainly loyal as well, if only to themselves.
The Primaries were designed to be loyal to their colours and what those colours represented. Green for the People. Red for the Warriors. Blue for the scholars. Yellow for the Merchants. White for the Healers. Purple for the hidden.
But Greys. They were the hardest puzzle to understand for those who didn’t know the Kraltnin well. They were the independent. The lonely and singular. It was easy to think of Grey Kraltnin as players unimportant to the greater whole, an idea that was absolutely misguided. The first hint was in the tasks they took upon themselves. The Greys filled the middle. They trained and managed, taught and guided to support the health of the greater whole. They worked hard to seek out their own meaning and purpose, to improve the lives of those who could benefit from their knowledge. The confusion was in the fact that no Grey was truly loyal to the clans.
The truth was complex and also difficult. The Grey Kraltnin were the most loyal of them all. That loyalty was for all of their race. Easy enough to say, but the deeper one thought, the harder the problems that arose. No single individual was truly so important as to be served over the race to which they all belonged. With perhaps the exception of the newest forms of Kraltnin, the Primaries who were deemed dangerous and summarily crushed. The Blacks considered their lessers as troublesome. The Whites considered their betters as indispensable. The Greys just couldn’t help but do their best to improve the lot of everyone around them.
This left Clakakark in a rather troublesome spot. Troublesome precisely because he was a typical Grey Kraltnin.
This Grey had been nursing an ongoing headache for the past day. It hadn’t started right away, but once it did start, the headache didn’t stop. The inventory manager had seen the arrival of Red Tail the moment she was offloaded from the shuttle and into Hatherkey’s base. He had seen the missing right hand. And he had personally delivered the purple tinted insult they’d had made to replace the lost limb.
Red Tail was more than just an individual, more than a figure of the dark side of the Peaks.
She was Red.
And now she belonged to Hatherkey.
The headache ratcheted up a notch and Clak’s tail began to coil in response to the pain.
He couldn’t afford to think too deeply about his problem, and he certainly had a problem. He let his mind drift to the earlier task. The Leralin and the Human had been wrestled into their stasis pods and shipped off to the port. They would be leaving soon enough. Meanwhile, Hatherkey was busy trying to convert that strange Human type Hyowean. Clak knew very well how that tightly controlled race had many unique abilities. It made sense that Hatherkey would be obsessed with finding a free agent. But Hatherkey and Wastad’s distraction allowed for an opportunity.
And the few white Kraltnin still in the base were watching Clak with judgemental weight. They absolutely depended on him to make the right decision. But they did not push. They knew as well as he what that decision would mean for him.
Clakakark tapped on the door of one of the other residents of the base. From where Clak stood, he knew there was no way he would notice the scan. Minot Beris of shifting blue was not a friendly Helix normally. But she made exceptions for him. Or at least she had until now, he was hoping that treatment wasn't about to change. The door hissed as it opened up. Clak didn’t hesitate to step through.
The furred and wood covered Mammal turned on her stool to face Clak.
“What are you thinking? Everything is on edge right now.”
“Yes,” Clak replied, “It really is.”
The brown furred Helix with black bark plating frowned at him. She was dressed, wearing the usual blue drape to match the subtly pulsing blue bulb on her forehead. Her symbiote, Beris was nearing season he could see, the petals of the flower beginning to open. A lance of guilt curled his tail further, although it provided a momentary distraction.
“What do you need Clak?”
“A favour, I need a hidden dataspace line to the public network.”
Her head twitched and the blue bulb pulsed. Both halves of Minot Beris were suspicious. “What for?”
Clak’s nictitating membrane dropped partially as the question made him think about what he might do.
Instead, he stepped further into the room to allow the door to shut. “I… I have to call in all my favours. I’ve done many things without asking as you have done much for the Kraltnin here, both of us acting on impulse. But now I must ask for your help just this once.”
Her eyes narrowed and the bulb dimmed ever so slightly. “Just this once?”
“Yes.”
“It’s a big favour isn’t it?”
“Yes, although you’ll not have to worry about another because-” Clak’s head twitched and his protective eye membrane dropped all the way.
“Good enough,” Minot interrupted, “take this line and I’ll help you.” She passed over a connector from her console. Clak stepped up close to accept the cable and plugged it into the port at the base of his skull. They couldn’t hesitate.
The connection was dead for the moment. He waited as Beris went to work.
She had to take her time, at least as much as she could afford. It wasn’t so simple to create a connection outside Hatherkey’s base without being observed, and she didn’t want both of them to die early because she wasn’t careful enough.
Not that such a thing couldn’t still happen.
But it wouldn’t happen like that, not on her watch. Clak was a good person and a good friend. With him there she had done much and learned all about the Kraltnin and his lesser Whites that lived within the base. Whites that had been mostly cleared out over the past couple of days. Almost certainly killed to avoid leaking information. Minot Beris didn’t have much to show for her life anymore, so much had been taken away. Clak had quietly given her companionship and purpose. Companionship they had both needed, the pair of them being early converts under Hatherkey’s powers.
The connection opened. Clak took a moment to get his bearings. He already had his destination in mind. He knew where the focus, the public attention would be, or at least he was pretty sure. It was unlikely to have changed over the last several years after all.
He slowly wormed his way into the base layer of dataspace, arriving at the Kraltnin forums. This was it. The best option was at the very top of the conversations. It was like the whole city was looking.
It was perfect, Clak opened up the conversation.
His body recoiled, then locked with tension, every muscle straining. Mustering all that he could of his own mental faculties, Clak was only able to make four very simple statements.
One was a name. Red Tail.
The second was a place. Hatherkey’s tower
The third a number. Two stasis pods
The last, a countdown.
Having absolutely betrayed Hatherkey, Clak’s slave package imploded on him. He would never know the results of his actions. It would only be a minute or two until his body shut down, its mind completely destroyed.
Minot Beris didn’t fare much better. She hated Hatherkey, hated all that had been done to her. In order to protect the vestiges of their minds, the Root and the Soil separated, Beris falling into unconscious hibernation. Whether or not it lived depended on Hatherkey discovering the corpse of a Kraltnin and the deceased body of a Helix gone into retreat. Truly Minot was as good as dead, the fracturing of her mind meaning she was now only good as fertilizer. Only Beris of shifting blue even had a chance to survive.
It was tough to say whether or not the blue bulb would have the chance.
Otto
The bite of the burger was good. The paddy was hot and greasy and flavourful. The bread was fresh and soft. There was lettuce with a wonderfully crisp crunch. There were tomatoes and Otto found himself perversely pleased to find he still wasn’t a fan. He could taste the seasoning and the whole experience was a step back into another life.
“This… is the fuckin’ best,” Daniel said around his own mouthful.
“Told you he knew his stuff,” Chase explained.
The Filmath was comfortable now, showing all his teeth in a wide smile. Those teeth had an almost serrated appearance, made to chop through tough foods. Otto had seen Jolif laugh with a wide smile, showing the flat molars at the back. With the thick jaw, Jolif’s appearance supported Chase’s explanation of the Filmath holding food as their greatest desire.
That meant they wanted to be good cooks too. The burger in his hands provided the proof of that impression.
Minmint and Tank were enjoying their own burgers, but Otto could see some pink and purples, indicating different toppings for their own meals.
Jolif was comfortable now, but he had been terrified when Otto had answered the Male’s question. “Yes, we know Harley,” Otto had told him. Jolif twitched and recoiled, but Otto wasn’t done, “but that doesn’t mean we are here for you.”
“You… you aren’t?”
“No. Should we be?”
“Nuh- No! Of course not, I haven’t eaten a person ever since!” He hesitated when Otto’s head twisted slightly, processing that particular answer. “I haven’t and won’t! Instead, I’ve tried to be good! I feed people! I’m good at what I do!”
A hand landed on Otto’s shoulder and he turned to look. Chase had grabbed his shoulder. Otto could see Mike and Daniel with twisted expressions as well, but Chase had kept his face neutral.
“He’s not lying,” Chase agreed, “He keeps the poor fed, but perhaps we shouldn’t talk out here.”
Otto looked further to see the patrons of the establishment watching closely. Everyone was silent but for a Grey Kraltnin, his female and a pair of Whites keeping them company.
Otto looked back and Filmath and lifted his right Mote hand. “Finding you here was a surprise, and I believe Chase. Should we talk somewhere else?”
For a moment, Otto had seen the whites of Jolif’s eyes, although in his case those whites were yellow. “Yes, that would be ideal, let us talk in private!”
A quiet murmur followed them out of the room. Jolif led them into a high-end dining room, clearly saved for people of importance. “Now, if you’re here, you must be hungry! And you look like, what was it… North Macans?” There was a slight delay as the translator hiccupped and translated the closest vocal equivalent. “I always forget to be honest. But I bet you’d like some burgers!”
Which led them to now.
Otto picked up some of the fries, made from real potatoes, and happily munched on the tasty, correctly salted side. “Okay, you know your stuff Mr. Jolif.”
“Mr.?” the Filmath tilted his head in surprise. “A form or respect? I thank you.”
“If you don’t mind me askin’,” Mike spoke up, “How do you know Harley?”
He paused for a moment. “Perhaps now is not the best time to get into that story in depth, but I can give you a few details. I was part of a smuggling ring and Queen Harley broke that ring.” Jolif was eating a yellow steak of some kind. He took a bit of the food as he considered what next to say. “I escaped in body, but perhaps not in mind. Terrified of what may happen if she were to find me, or worse, send Rodgers after me, I decided to change my orientation.”
“You started feeding everyone else rather than the worst of your own?”
“You’re very generous to say it that way.”
“We ain’t got room fer’ more enemies right now,” Daniel half-joked.
“So I understand,” Jolif hesitated, “So you are using me as a neutral ground?”
“That’s my fault,” Chase admitted, “You never tossed in with Red Tail, always keeping this place to yourself. I hoped it would be the same with Hatherkey.”
“It is, that’s why I let you all approach me as you did.”
That statement didn’t go over Otto’s head, but while he didn’t let himself react, Tank flinched upon realizing they were in danger entering the restaurant.
“I was on guard I must admit. I’ve noticed the increased Mote activity in the area, although they aren’t actively trying to burrow into my self-made district. Seeing a Mote as a hand did surprise me.”
They ate in silence for a moment. The meal was the best one they’d had in a while, followed closely by the meal served back on Oolseck.
“Are you still facing Hatherkey?” Jolif asked. “The competition is all but over, and while I can shelter you for a time, I will not help you. The people who depend on me are at stake.”
“Hatherkey has some of our own,” Otto replied. “If not for that, I’m not sure we would still be fighting.” Otto looked up at Chase and their eyes met. “We would probably have asked Harley to leave early.”
Chase’s eyes opened wider. He understood what Otto meant.
“But because of how things turned out, we can’t go. That decision has already been made,” Otto sighed as he stared at the mostly eaten burger sitting on his plate. “The problem now is that we don’t know where to go next.”
The sound of someone knocking on the door was so familiar and yet so unexpected, it startled Otto right out of his frame of mind.
Jolif waved his hand and the door opened in response to the unheard signal. A White Kraltnin popped his head through. He twitched slightly as everyone looked. “When you are finished the room has been prepared.”
“Thank you Perapin,” Jolif acknowledged with a nod.
They finished their meal with little more than small talk. Jolif would shelter them while they were there, and was happy to feed the group, but there was no more help to be had here. When they were done their meal, they went to their room.
Kruent
He was almost surprised when the report encouraged a sigh of relief out of him.
Kruent had come to realize he actually liked Chase. The man was an athlete dedicated to his craft and an honest man who appreciated the honesty of others. He hadn’t really started to understand Chase until he allowed the Human permission to run his laps.
And that is all he had done. Chase plotted his route through the base and ran it every day.
He didn’t run in a manner that was exceptionally fast or exciting. There were other faster Sapients, and Chase clearly couldn’t fly… well not truly. Instead, it was deceptive watching him. The man would build up a disgusting layer of moisture over time, but only at the very end of a run did he actually seem tired.
He just ran seemingly forever.
In the process, he earned not the respect, but the awe of everyone who worked there. It was one thing to hear ‘well Humans have a lot of endurance’. It was another to see him keep running long periods of time. And when he was just exercising, he carried weights on his wrists and legs. Not something he was willing to do on the job, but that Chase had such machine-like endurance was frightening.
Learning Chase had disappeared had almost broken Trent and Fedely. That decided Kruent’s first action, Kruent sent a demand for the two of them to join him in the office. He also sent a couple more requests for other individuals who would appreciate knowing.
While he waited, Kruent considered the report. Knowing what he knew now, It was no surprise Chase had disappeared. The man had been spotted by surveillance in the company of that rogue party of troublemakers that had suddenly cursed Hatherkey with their presence. He’d hoped to acquire them to join enforcement, instead, they had liberated Chase.
All things considered, this was probably the least terrible way to lose the Human. That group had given every sign of being free agents who respected the city they operated within. They were still breaking laws, but Kruent could stomach giving them some leeway.
Kruent referenced the ongoing report on Hatherkey. He knew the Silianiscan’s full name now. Hather Key Neron. As per the agreement between The Silianiscan Core and the Veprutasian Co-operation they had submitted a request for information and received a confirmation.
Hather Key Neron was a rogue Adult, off playing his own games. As far as the Core was concerned, the ‘young’ adult was on his own. If Hatherkey couldn’t protect his identity, then he was fair game if found in the wild. That wasn’t to pretend the Silianiscan was an easy target, there was just no reprisal to be had if something were to happen to Hather Key in quiet.
If anything happened to him in recorded public, that might be a different matter. The Silianiscan wouldn’t want this though, Hather Key was at much at risk in this case. If he embarrassed his people he would become a Pariah. And the Superiors didn’t suffer Pariahs.
If Hather Key had been something else, not just a bored Silianiscan, Kruent would have been told to stay out of it. And it would not have mattered how much Kruent disliked the thought of such a thing.
Another thread he was watching updated with a little alert ping. Kruent had placed the Kraltnin forums on his personal watchlist. Just to cover a blindside, he had also removed it from the active search network. Only those who knew it was there would be able to find it and the Kraltnin loyally kept themselves up to date on news their concerned their own. Anyone else would have to be informed by someone in the know. A common dataspace search wouldn’t, or at least shouldn’t, give them the news. Still, most of the recent conversation was just regular civilians wondering or complaining about what was going on.
Although he was seeing the report on Chase’s presence in Jolif’s Market here as well, and only slightly later than the official version. The Kraltnin were watching things closely. But something important had come up. Kruent went to the latest post.
A name Kruent had been looking for, and a location he could inspect. The note about there being two stasis pods and a countdown though… There was another aspect to the situation. It was simple enough to understand, but Kruent didn’t know who could be in trouble.
But this supported the notion that Hatherkey had taken Red Tail. Sifting through Red Tails primary base had yielded plenty of corpses, all dealt with in execution style. But the exceptions had been notable.
The location was a good one, for the Superior. Kruent pulled up the expanded data, inspecting the location. He had looked earlier, then initiated a deeper report from the AI. A hanging tower on the ceiling of the sixth district. At least ten levels and no easy access through the district itself, the building had a direct transport tube connection. The ownership data was also restricted. When the restriction was lifted by his own authority, the name was noted as having ties to a Silianiscan from another troublesome place, the Bet Your Life casino station.
Kruent scratched the flesh around his ear sockets with irritation. Everything he was seeing at this location pointed at trouble if he wanted to go poking. But he did have certain rights to deal with the threat Hatherkey posed to his city. Perhaps.
Kruent began compiling the numbers. The costs incurred. The lives lost. The rules and systems subverted. He waited for a moment as the calculation was done. Moments later he was looking at the final estimate. As the commissioner had expected the Silianiscan had exceeded the threshold. Previous commissioners had retired on the bribes criminals like this had to make to avoid military intervention. And then, because the Veprutasian elite didn't like overbearing manipulation, those criminals would draw the ire of the true Veprutasian rulership. Namely, the truly, disgustingly, rich.
But the actual legitimate reason for the assessment was to unlock the ultimate authority of Kruent's position. With a great enough threat Kruent could reshape the city.
He could purge that tower and kill thousands, many of them innocent friendly fire victims. This was a terrible idea, and he’d probably resign before ever considering it, dropping a whole tower into the city below. The fact that this had happened before didn’t sit well with him.
More interestingly, there were ways to build new avenues of access with little more than a mental whim. He could change large sections of the transportation system according to his needs. He could bring in the construction rigs to pull apart the tower. He could disassemble nearby transport tubes to prevent travel. And of course, he could call down military intervention, but that last one carried additional political risks.
An alert sounded and Kruent checked the door. Trent was the first to arrive. He checked the map to see the rest of the people he had called were only moments away.
He pushed away the reports, letting the damage compilation sort itself out. It had to go through a verification check. When that check was done, it would continue to the ring. The process from here on was automatic.
He would reassure his people first, then deal with Hatherkey.
Kukrit
Normally he would welcome the renewed challenge. Kukrit enjoyed the act of infiltration.
Studying the strengths and weaknesses. Finding the vulnerabilities and slipping in through those openings. Then once he was in, pulling the system apart without notice and putting it back together in a way that suited him.
It was the game that he enjoyed most.
But right now he was in a rush! Digging his way back into the enforcement systems wasn’t something he expected to be stuck on.
He blamed Hather Key.
That rock fisted idiot had alerted Kruent somehow and the Veprutasian had, and still was, taking efforts to reseal the vulnerabilities in his systems. Kukrit still had at least two ways into the AI core that would allow him to find what he wanted, but those methods skirted perilously close to someone being able to find Kukrit’s tracks if they just happened to look in the right direction. Not a thought he liked to entertain. Unlike Hather, no one actually knew Kukrit was here.
Well, there was another way to skirt that problem. At a certain point, physical location really did matter. If he wanted to decoy the AI, then he could do that by accessing the dataspace from somewhere that was associated with someone else. It was simple enough to bounce one's signal across a plethora of nodes to obscure your location. Against flesh and blood opponents that is. It wouldn’t work against a vastly superior AI core, it could track back far too quickly.
If Hather was going to make a nuisance of himself, then Kukrit didn’t feel the slightest hesitation in making his cousin’s life more difficult.
“Umbra,” Kukrit sent to the Gerlen.
There was a momentary delay, of course. He had sent Umbra to collect on an equipment order. “Master Kukrit,” Umbra replied, his voice still terribly ragged, but properly deferential. The Gerlen’s implant was still partially corrupted, but he had fallen back into the normal mode of deference and subservience that all Gerlen were made for. Kukrit had managed to restore the most important security routines. If Umbra tried to harm Kukrit, the result would be instant and fatal
That was one problem with the implant being corrupted, Kukrit couldn’t take the risk. If Umbra attempted harm, there was no warning tweak. He would be knocked unconscious or killed and whichever it happened to be was more up to the Gerlen’s luck. This had been explained, Umbra was not ignorant of the risk.
“What is your progress Umbra?”
“I’ve collected the order, I am on my way back,” the response arrived with a locational ping so Kukrit could see Umbra’s location.
“I see, good,” Kukrit replied, thinking about just where would be best to meet. “Wait at this location, I shall see you soon.”
“Yes, master.”
Umbra would tap into the dataspace from Hather’s tower and delve into the AI core from there. If there was a counterattack, it wouldn’t be Kukrit’s problem! And from there maybe he could find those damn Humans who took his ship!
He still wanted that!
And those Humans, all Humans… Kukrit still didn’t understand quite why they were restricted like that. They could have been added to the greater universe without too much trouble a millenia ago. Instead, the Elder in charge of them went with a stop-gap measure to boost his influence. Having secured his place, he quietly locked up the Humans in a pleasantly distracting way to let them develop.
Kukrit was no idiot, he understood subversion when he saw it. Humans should never have been given unsupervised time and freedom to follow their own path. There was a reason they tended to be such a mess when not strictly controlled, and now he was suffering for it!
Kukrit took a deep breath while collecting some gear, his harness and the cloak he liked to wear when wandering about.
Those Humans were trouble, one couldn’t argue that. His own experience was proving it.
“Is this really what you wanted Elder?” Kukrit mumbled to himself with annoyance, the door hissing shut behind him.
Otto
For the moment they were relaxing. They hadn’t gotten a full night’s sleep when the Motes informed them of Chase’s location, so the group was still semi-recovering.
Daniel and Mike were very much asleep. Off in their room and oblivious to the world. Tank and Minmint were in the living room curled up together in something of a tangle and Otto could hear them whispering back and forth. Their voices weren’t light and playful, however. Their conversation was a heavy one.
Tank had asked for a favour from Otto and it had been… relatively easy to implement. The Implant did keep a regular record of how it was interacting with the body and how the mind of the host acted. The favour came with its risks though. Kraltnin physiology was different from that of a Human after all. But Otto understood Tank’s reasoning and agreed with it.
Matchka needed less sleep normally, her schedule being highly malleable according to just what she had been up to lately. She’d slept like a rock in the temporary hiding spot in the depths of the Gaps, when she did sleep. Right now she was playing with scavenged modules and patched together harnesses. They had stolen some hardened gear from Red Tails base to replace the stuff that had burnt out, but it was bulkier and originally installed on Monos sized harnesses.
And Otto, he worked on another problem. It was a serious problem for sure and might make all the difference in the very near future.
Tik explained the freezing effect of the odd language, but that was only so much help.
Otto couldn’t figure it out.
Just knowing something could happen didn’t always explain how it worked after all. Otto knew there was a language that could be spoken to command functions hidden in the implants. Hatherkey had used that to disable so many residents of Red Tail’s base, and the piles of corpses they’d found provided evidence. Remembering the site caused Otto to mentally lock up for a moment. He had to push the image away.
He’d known for a long time there was something deeper to the implants. There was a foundational language at the depths that Otto didn’t really have the means to understand. He had always been terrible with other languages, and this only reminded him of that problem. Otto had found that underlying language back on Hrossincru, and if he dug far enough in, he found more of it in the Helix and Achun codesetting libraries as components of the packages he used all the time.
The problem was a fundamental one. This language formed the backbone of it all. So it had to be Silianiscan. Which made sense. Otto found more of it in the stuff he had lifted from the Manifestation and SPIRE than he did anywhere else.
“MmmmmMMMM!” Otto whined with annoyance.
“Hard problem?” Matchka asked.
“I don’t know how to decipher the fundamentals,” Otto admitted, “The stuff at the deepest part of the BIPU.”
“Worried, Silianiscan?” Matchka guessed.
“Yeah, the last thing I want is for him to freeze us in place… but I’m not sure where the function is hidden.”
“Spoken word,” Matchka declared.
Otto looked at the Bellani. She looked back at him with her big baby blue eyes. She flicked an ear, subtly pointing at someone else in the room.
Otto glanced at Chase. Somehow, someway, that man had acquired a cell phone and a pair of headphones. Chase hadn’t used them until the group came to a stop. Once Chase was in peace, he’d pulled the things out. With the tunes lulling him to sleep, Chase was now napping on one of those bowl chairs Otto saw all over the place. His expression was relaxed, Chase was clearly happily listening to whatever tunes had been loaded into the stolen device.
“Oh, hmm,” Otto mumbled as he realized what she was getting at. “If we can’t hear him, he can’t speak to the implants.”
Piderby tended to need the least amount of sleep, so he was up and watching whatever information sources he could find. Crawk had actually plugged himself into an outlet and was leaning against the wall, also conked out.
“Hey Piderby,” Otto called softly.
The Gerlen, wearing a pale seafoam suit, with pink socks just visible from the cuffs of his pants, turned his head to look at Otto. “Yes?”
“Do you know where Chase got those headphones?”
Piderby placed his finger on his chest. “Well, of course, I had them made for our friend.”
“Oh, well, that's,” Otto stuttered, momentarily surprised. “Well, can you get more made?”
“Certainly, what is your timeframe?”
There was a knock on the door.
Crawk was the closest. Revealing that he was not actually sleeping, the black furred Ytheon stood up. Unplugging from the wall, he moved over to the door and cracked it open. It was easy to lose track of a person’s natural pitch and tone, but Otto suddenly realized Crawk had a rather high pitched voice when he didn’t receive the normal translation. The voice he was speaking to was relatively high pitched as well.
Crack stepped back and a Grey Kraltin entered the room, facing Tank.
“Have you seen the forums?” The Grey asked, breathless and worried.
Tank untangled his head from where he’d been spending some quality time with Minmint. “The Forums? I am from off planet, if there is something I should be aware of, I welcome the information.”
The Grey closed his eye entirely. “The location of Red Tail is known, someone has left a message for you.”
Tank jumped to his feet, his tail pushing him upwards. Arriving upright with Minmint in his arms, Tanktantun set her down gently before facing the Grey directly. “Where?”
Otto turned to face Piderby, “We’ll need those headphones yesterday.”
“I will see what I can do.”

On US Congressional Election Predictions: Wanna Bet?

This sub loves FiveThirtyEight's forecasts (House thread, Senate thread). So do I.
But a betting market should do at least as well as any particular model, because if it's right then punters who trust the model can always profit by mirroring it--thereby correcting the market price. Standard EMH stuff.
Here's a current snapshot of the probabilities:
Source Type Dems Take House (%) Dems Take Senate (%)
538 Classic Model 83.3 32.7
538 Lite Model 73.8 28.7
538 Deluxe Model 78.5 32.4
The Economist Model 72 N/A
PredictIt Market 71 29
PaddyPower Market 75 20
Observations
Source House CV Senate CV
538 Classic 3.7% 4.9%
PredictIt 2.6% 5.7%
Extra Credit
It would be interesting to compare Brier scores for all the Congressional races. (That's the metric used by the Good Judgment Project, though of course many metrics are available.) Just record the probabilities 90 days in advance of the election, 60 days, 30 days, and 10 days, and the day prior. Then see which model/market has the lowest Brier score for each time horizon. And with daily data you can figure out the Brier-minimum horizon for each method.
Perhaps someone with free time could see value in this. (This is a busy period for my work, so I am unfortunately out, though ordinarily I'd enjoy it.)
1 For-profit betting market odds are irreducibly up-biased to account for the bookmaker's cut. That is, if you convert all odds to probabilities and add them up, you'll get something higher than 100%. It is not possibly to profit off of this except by arbitraging across multiple bookmakers.

With the football back, and the big fight at the weekend there’s never been a better time to start Match Betting

I decided to write this when I noticed almost every one of my friends was signing up to book makers in order to have a punt on the McGregor Mayweather fight this weekend. If you’re thinking about doing this, you should know there’s another way to get money off of the bookie. If you’ve never heard of Match Betting at all, then check the guide I wrote earlier which covers the basics & terminology used but the TLDR is that Match betting works by playing bookies against each other and claiming their sign up offers for yourself. It’s legal, tax free, risk free & quite fun. So if you’re interested, can read & follow instructions then check out these sites:

OddsMonkey proably offer more tools than any other sites, including: OddsMatcher, Racing Matcher, Each way matcher, Acca matcher, Acca finder, dutch search, tennis matcher and more.
Cost: FREE TRIAL! which will earn you £45 and then £15.00 after that

Heads&Heads | Non
Head&Heads is relative new comer to the game, founded in 2016 it is run by one man, however that one man is some type of match betting machine sent from the future to help us get back at the bookies, it seems to update with reloads and new offers quicker than the two sites above who have large teams.
Although the most expensive subscription, at £3 more than Profit Accumulator their free trial is the best, letting you earn up to £200 and their weekly reload emails are simply the best there is.
Their dashboard is clean, cut and simple making it very clear how much you’ve earned and where. They also have the oddchecker, a tracking table of every bet you’ve made, which is directly linked to their bet form. In my opinion heads&heads is the best site for more experienced match betting users.
Cost: FREE TRIAL! which will earn you up to £200 and then £20.00 after that

Odds Watchdog | Non
Odds watchdog is the newest and least established of all of the sites I’ve listed, their main focus is on live training & support for their members. As such they offer individual and group coaching via live chat
They offer most of the tools listed above and like to focus on quality of offers rather than quantity, so you might find they don’t have as many as the other sites.
Cost: FREE TRIAL! which will earn you up to £25 and then £25.00 after that

I have been a matched betting enthusiast for years and now I am teaching it for free to everyone.

Hey beermoneyukers!
After years working in my 9-5 job as a website developer for a large corporation I decided I could not face selling my soul any longer lols and packed in my job.
Since then, I had a stint working as a freelancer whilst also making a healthy side income via matched betting. And over the past 9 months I’ve been building a website that teaches people how to do the same.
There are a lot of websites out there that teach matched betting, but most require a monthly subscription and most have long articles that can be a bit dry and hard to follow.
So instead, I built a website, Team Profit, that:
  Is completely free
Uses animated video guides to teach people (link)
Has infographics to accompany all video guides
Provides step by step guides for 25+ bookmaker offer which will make you £600+ risk free (link)
I have amended the video script over 50 times to try to make it as concise and helpful as possible, hopefully they are a good watch!
Any feedback on the videos, guides, blog or anything else, please let me know, I spend every day adding new content and improving existing content.
If you are thinking of learning matched betting and making £600+ risk free, please check it out!

INTRODUCTION

1) What exactly is matched betting and how I do make money risk free?
There are more than 25 online bookmakers in the UK. In order to attract new customers, they each offer free bets, known as ‘Welcome Offers’.
In total they offer over £800 in free bets to new customers.
In order to receive the free bet, bookmakers require you to place your first bet. An example offer is ‘Bet £5, Get £20 free bet’.
The risk is that you could lose both the £5 bet (your own cash) and the £20 free bet.
By using a technique called matched betting, we remove this risk.
This is because we match our first £5 bet on the bookmaker with a £5 bet on a betting exchange on the opposite outcome (this is known as a ‘lay bet’).
For example, we bet £5 on Man Utd to win on the bookmaker, and £5 on Man Utd not to win on the betting exchange.
As we have now bet on all outcomes, regardless of whether Man Utd win, draw or lose, we will neither win nor lose money. However, we have received the £20 free bet!
With the £20 free bet, we can now repeat this process by betting on say Liverpool to win on the bookmaker and Liverpool not to win.
This time, because we are using a £20 free bet but our winnings are paid out in cash, we will always make a profit.
We repeat this process for 25+ bookmakers, one by one. In total we can convert the £800+ in free bets to over £600+ in actual cash profit, in very little time at all.

2) How popular is matched betting?
Matched betting isn’t new and has been around since at least 2005.
However, it is only since 2015 that it has really increased in popularity due to the rise of websites teaching matched betting. You can see this trend here: Google Trends Link
By looking at the various matched betting sites popularity, a reasonable estimate is at least 25,000 people in the UK are matched betters. You can see a review of sites that teach matched betting in the ‘Which websites teach matched betting?’ section below.

3) Does it involving gambling?
This is the most common assumption with matched betting. You’d be forgiven for thinking that it did involve gambling simply because the name ‘matched betting’ would suggest it did.
However, matched betting does not involve gambling, you will never be risking a penny.
Because we are always covering the opposite outcome occurring, there is never any risk we will lose money. Furthermore, we still receive the free bets which we will where we make our profit.
The profitability and risk free nature of matched betting has been reviewed in the Daily Telegraph and the Guardian

4) How much will I need to start?
You can start with as little as you want, however the lowest I would recommend starting with would be £25.
With £25, you can start your first bookmaker welcome offer and make a deposit into your first betting exchange, meaning you can start making a profit.
For more details, see this Starting with £25 guide.
The downside, with only £25 you are restricted by having to wait for withdrawals before you can move onto the next offer.
Therefore, I would say an optimal amount to have available for your cash flow would be in the region of £200 as this allows you to complete multiple welcome offers simultaneously.

5) How long will it take me to learn matched betting?
To learn the principles of matched betting, it will take up to 20 minutes.
To become familiar with completing your first offer, I would set aside another 30-60 minutes so you can take your time and ensure you are completing it correctly.
For example, the video guides on Team Profit last a total of 21 minutes (8 minutes for the explainers videos and 13 minutes to watch the step-by-step real time example). Although they last just 21 minutes, some users watch certain parts of the video again to become comfortable with the process.
It is very much recommended to avoid trying to learn matched betting by yourself. There are thousands of experienced matched betters who can help you. For more details on this, see the ‘Which Websites Teach Matched Betting’ section.
If you need any help anytime, please do comment in this Reddit thread and I’ll help you out.

OFFERS

1)How much money can I make matched betting from the welcome offers (new customer only)?
From the welcome offer, you can make approximately £1,000 cash profit.
There are 25+ bookmaker offers available on sports for at least £600 profit. These are relatively straightforward offers and good value in terms of time to complete. It would take around 12 hours to complete these offers, which works around £40 / hour tax free. You can complete them over any time period you like.
There are at least another 5 bookmaker offers, such as Bet365 and BetVictor, though these require more time, you could make around £100 to £200. They require more time because the bookmaker requires you to bet many more times before you can withdraw.
Plus 20+ offers across casino and bingo, though some are not risk free and typically take more time to complete, but you should be able to make at least £200 profit from these offers.
So overall, there is an easy £600 profit risk free, then up to another £400 if it’s worth your time to do them.

2) How much is a free bet worth in actual cash profit?
A £10 free bet is worth between £5 to £8 in actual cash profit.
The reason for the range is because the higher odds you choose for your free bet, the more actual cash profit you will make.
For example, if you bet on a football team with odds of 2.0, the £10 free bet will convert to around £5 cash profit. Whereas if you bet on a football team that is unlikely to win, with odds of say 6.0, the £10 free bet will convert to around £8 cash profit.
Note though, the higher odds you choose, the more you will need in your betting exchange account in case the bet wins. For a detailed explanation with examples, read this free bet profit article.

3) After I have finished the Welcome Offers, how much money can I make matched betting each month (from existing customer offers)?
Anywhere from £100 to £1,000+ per month.
Bookmakers continue to run free bet offers to retain their customers, I refer to these as Daily Offers.
Daily Offers are typically less valuable than the welcome offers but still worth completing.
For example, rather than ‘Bet £5 Get £20’ that they offer to new customers, they may instead run ‘Bet £20 Get £10’ and on a particular football match.
I would say for people with a day job, aiming for between £300 to £500 a month is realistic. In terms of time required, for every hour you spend, you should make around £30 tax free.
So to make £300 a month, expect to spend around 2-3 hours a week. I’d say to earn more than this, you will likely need to accept a lower hourly rate and do some of the low value offers too.
If you are looking to make £1,000+, I’d expect you would have to be near full time and also be fortunate to keep your enough of your bookmaker accounts open for 12+ month period (what is mugging bet FAQ below).

4) What type of offers are available for existing customers?

Easy offers:
The most common easy offer on football matches is Bet £20 Get £10 free bet. Many bookmakers run this offer, though it will usually be on a particular football match.
The most common easy offer on horse racing is usually on SkyBet, who will run simple offers such as ‘Get £25 free bet if your horse comes 2nd or 3rd’.
There are also easy casino offers, such as ‘£5 risk free’, where you spin on slots and hope to win, if you don’t they’ll refund up to £5 of losses.
These offers can make you up to £300 per month (or £500 on a good month with European football) and are easy for those with a day job.

Harder offers:
If you are looking to make more than £300 to £500 a month, then you will need to spend time on Saturday’s completing horse racing offers on Channel 4 racing and during the week too, though Saturday’s are the most profitable.
Plus you will need to do more advanced offers such as football accumulator refunds, each way offers, though I will leave these aside given they could have their own separate thread :p
If you’d like to understand where you can learn more about these offers, see ‘Which sites teach matched betting?’ FAQ below.

BOOKMAKERS AND BETTING EXCHANGE

1) Which bookmakers have the best welcome offers?

There are 3 formats of bookmakers welcome offers.

‘Bet £X Get £Y free bet’ - these are the most straightforward. Simply place your first bet and receive a free bet.
This format of welcome offer, ranging from Bet £5 Get £20 to Bet £50 Get £50, is available on Coral, SkyBet, BetBright, Betfred, Paddy Power, BetStars, William Hill, Stan James, Betway, Ladbrokes, TitanBet, 32Red and MarathonBet.

‘Refunds’ (also known as Risk Free offers) - these are similar to Bet £X Get £Y free bet. The only difference is you only receive your free bet if your first bet loses, hence I refer to these offers are refund offers.
This format of welcome offer is, ranging from £10 to £50 refunds, is available on Bwin, Dafabet, UniBet, Totesport, 188Bet, SuperLenny, Genting and 888Sport.

‘Multi Bets’ - these welcome offers require multiple bets to be placed before receiving your reward. It can take form of a bonus which requires to bet £X amount until you can withdraw any winnings, or the form of a cash reward once you have bet £X amount.
This format of welcome offer is available on Bet365, BetVictor and some other bookmakers, however they often require such a large amount of betting that I haven’t included them in this list.
The quickest to complete are the Bet £X Get £Y due to their simplicity, then the next best are the ‘Refunds’ offers.
The Multi Bet offers can be very valuable (e.g. Bet£365’s offer is worth over £150 profit risk free) but can also require much larger deposits in order to place the bookmaker bets and lay these bets in your Exchange.

For details of each bookmaker offer, see this Welcome Offer List & Guides

2) Which bookmakers have the best offers for existing customers?

Bookmakers vary in their level of generosity to existing customers. This is a little subjective, but in my opinion, this is the ranking of bookmakers for existing customers:

Best: Bet365
Bet365 run a £50 Risk Free offer most months (sometimes twice a month during popular football months) which is worth £35. It is very quick to complete (less than 10 minutes) so for £35 to £70, or around £500 a year, it is a great offer.
Plus they have one of the best horse racing offers, up to a £50 risk free bet if your pick a winning horse with high odds. This is a profitable offer worth around £20-£30 a week, or up to £1,000 to £1,500 a year.

Second Best: SkyBet
SkyBet run regular £5 to £25 free bet offers on horse racing and football, plus regular £5 risk free offers in SkyVegas.

Third & Fourth Best: Coral and Paddy Power
Both these sites run regular horse racing, price boosts and football offers (Bet £20 Get £10 in particular), at least £20 to to be made on every week from these two sites.

Good: William Hill, Ladbrokes, BetStars, Stan James, Betway, Bwin, Betfred, Totesport, 188Bet, 888, BetVictor
All these bookmakers run offer(s) each week so it’s worth ensuring you have completed the welcome offer for each of these sites so you can take advantage of their daily offers for existing customers.

3) What is mug betting?
If you are only ever betting when you receive an offer, the bookmaker will no longer allow your account to receive free bet offers (this is known as being ‘gubbed’).
To get around this, you should place ‘mug’ bets. ‘Mug’ bets are simply bets that a ‘mug’ punter would place. Mug bets include £1 accumulators (betting on several teams to win) and betting on favourites without an offer.
Most advice suggests that for every offer you receive, you should place 2-3 mug bets.
If you are gubbed, it does kinda suck when you receive the email, as you can no longer profit from the bookmaker’s offers.
It is also becoming increasingly common as bookmakers are noticing more suspected matched bettors, due to its increasing popularity. My advice is to make money whilst you can and take sensible precautions to try to keep your account active.
For more details, see this Mug Betting article

4) What is a betting exchange?
A betting exchange is a marketplace for customers to bet between each other on the outcome of particular events. This differs from a traditional bookmaker because an exchange also gives you the ability to be the bookmaker yourself and take bets from other exchange users.
Standard bookmakers generate profit by offering odds that are in their favour. Betting exchanges explained in terms of how they generate revenue is they charge a commission on any winnings a player receives.
The two market leading betting exchanges are, Betfair and Smarkets.
For more details, Betting Exchanges Comparison.

5) How we use betting exchanges?
When matched betting, a betting exchange is used to place our lay bets (the opposite bet to our trigger bet). So when we place the trigger bet with the bookmaker on one outcome to release the initial free bet, we must also cover the opposite outcome so that if the bookmaker bet does lose we still win on the lay bet - making it risk free!
Similarly when we are placing the free bet bet with the bookmaker we then lay off that bet using the exchange and because we’re using a free bet but being paid out in cash, this is how we turn free bets into withdrawable cash.
We only ever use betting exchanges for lay bets.

ADDRESSING COMMON CONCERNS

1) How sustainable is matched betting?
Matched betting over the past 6-9 months has become harder. Most bookmakers have realised they are thousands of matched betters taking advantage of their offers and so have either reduced the generosity of their offers or have made the daily offers more complicated.
However, there is still intense competition between the bookmakers, meaning they will always run special offers to an extent.
By spending a few hours a week, you can still make £300 to £500 a month, whereas in past year(s) this figure could have been £500 to £800.
The biggest issue matched betters face is being ‘gubbed’. As explained in the mug betting FAQ, this is when a bookmaker restricts you from receiving free bets and bonuses.
There are various theories as to how a particular bookmaker decides to to gub a customer. Reasons include taking up too many offers, winning a high % of bets, withdrawing regularly, placing bets far in advance or at irregular times.
The truth is nobody really knows precisely why people gubbed. However, you can expect to get gubbed at some point from a particular bookmaker, it may be 2 months, it may be 2 years, it is hard to know.
I really think though that everyone can make up to £1,000 from the Welcome Offers and at least £300 to £500 a month without any problems. I think the issues comes when you are making £1,000+ every month which sooner or later bookmakers will catch up that you are taking up a lot of offers.
Having said this, some people say they have been making £1,000+ every month for years, so maybe it is possible if you are using a wide variety of bookmakers and consistently placing mug bets.

2) Will it impact my credit rating?
Having betting activity on your bank statement does not impact your credit rating.
The only thing to be wary of when making betting deposits and withdrawals is that it can affect your application for a mortgage. So if you’re planning on applying for a mortgage in the near future then I’d recommend using a separate bank account to that which you’ll be applying for the mortgage with.

3) Do the bookmakers have terms to stop customers from withdrawing?
The vast majority of welcome offers do not have any withdrawal restrictions.
A handful of welcome offers do but this will be state in the terms and conditions. It is much easier though to use a matched betting website as they will clearly highlight the key terms of each offer (see ‘Which websites teach matched betting’ section below).
Casino offers will almost always have withdrawal restrictions, however for the matched betting welcome offers we are focusing on sports betting.

4) Do I need to know about sports?
Not at all! You do not need a sports background or have any sort of betting knowledge, many matched betters do not know anything about sport or betting before learning matched betting.
You may learn matched betting a little faster if you have sports betting experience but it really isn't important at all.

WHICH WEBSITE TEACH MATCHED BETTING - YOUR OPTIONS

There are 30+ websites that three key stages to matched betting:
Stage 1) Learning matched betting
Stage 2) Completing the Welcome Offers (for new customers)
Stage 3) Profiting in the long term from Daily Offers (for existing customers)
Below I have tried to cover the main sites that will help you with each of these stages.

In summary, I may be biased :p but I think the:
Stage 1) and Stage 2) best approach is to use TeamProfit.com
Stage 3) Join a paid membership site, either OddsMonkey.com, ProfitAccumulator.co.uk or ProfitMaximiser.co.uk to continue to make money from the Daily Offers.

FREE SITES:

TeamProfit.com (link)
I really believe Team Profit is the best site to learn matched betting and complete the welcome offers, but compare us to the other sites and see what you think!
Learn matched betting with animated videos (link)
25+ Welcome Offers using the step by step guides (link)
A free Facebook group to provide help to you anytime you need (link).

MoneySavingExpert.com (link)
The advantage of MoneySavingExpert is the sheer volume of content, covering all aspects of matched betting.
The disadvantage of MoneySavingExpert it is not well structured as it is just one forum with a long lists of posts so it takes quite a while to find relevant threads and miss key information.

MatchedBettingBlog.com (link)
The advantage of MatchedBettingBlog is the clear layout of the daily offers posted each day for with step by step instructions. It’s a good site to check to avoid missing the best and easier daily offers. The forum community also helps to post additional offers on top of those listed on the homepage, and also provides general advice on completing daily offers.
The disadvantage of MatchedBettingBlog is it is relatively limited in terms of teaching matched betting and does not provide a clear list of welcome offers. Also, for those looking to make £500+ every month, it doesn’t provide any software to help with the more advanced types of matched betting with daily offers, such as horse racing refunds and accumulator refunds, that the paid member sites offer.
Additional free matched betting sites include:
Matchedbettingfree.co.uk (link) (Reddit thread link)
Freebets4all.com (link)

PAID SITES:

Paid sites usually charge £15 to £25 a month.
In return, they will teach matched betting, provide list of welcome offers and provide daily offers too. Additionally, most paid sites will also provide software that helps to make you more money plus save you time.

OddsMonkey.com (link | non)
OddsMonkey charge £15 per month or £150 per year.
They are the most well known provider of matched betting software. Earlier this year, they added the full range of matched betting services, so now they provide all of the below:
Tutorial articles
Welcome offer step by step guides
Daily offers calendar
Software: OddsMatcher, Horse Racing Refunds, Tennis Refunds, range of calculators and spreadsheet
Forum
The advantage of OddsMonkey is the exceptional value. They have the best range of software and tools for matched betters to maximise their profits, are consistently bringing up new tools at no added cost. At only £15 per month it is one of the best options to consider.
The only disadvantage is the forum is not as busy as the next two options, ProfitAccumulator and Profit Maximiser. Though the forum is still a sufficiently active to ensure any questions have you are answered quickly.

Profit Accumulator (Link - Chazmer87's I don't have one | non)
Profit Accumulator charge £23 per month or £150 per year
Profit Accumulator helped to bring matched betting to the main stream with a highly active community. There are clear similarities between OddsMonkey and Profit Accumulator in terms of their high standard of software and offers.
The advantage of Profit Accumulator is their very active community. There is a great deal of advice in virtually every aspect of matched betting and the information is all well structured. Plus they have a very good offers coverage.
The only disadvantage to Profit Accumulator is the higher cost. The membership itself is £23 per month, plus their version of the Horse Racing Refunds software is £10 per month, or £115 a year. So in total you are paying £33 per month versus OddsMonkey’s £15 per month.

Profit Maximiser (Link | non)
Profit Maximiser is run by the original matched betting guru Mike Cruickshank.
Mike has been building software for matched betters for many years and has a very active Facebook Group.
Each piece of software is sold separately, I believe the below is accurate, each have their own £1 free trials:
Bonus Bagging £27 plus VAT - provides a list of all welcome offers and teaching (Link | non)
Profit Maximiser £97 plus VAT - provides all daily offers (Link | non)
Each Way Sniper £47 plus VAT - provides a horse racing betting system (Link)
Accumulator Generator £149 plus VAT - provides a football betting system (Link)
I believe Mike may have a couple more tools, if so I’ll edit this post if you could please comment / send me a message.
The advantage of Mike’s products is that there is no monthly recurring fee, so if you intend to do this for many months, it may work out profitable to do so. Plus from what I understand their Facebook Group finds some lucrative casino loophole offers faster than other matched betting providers.
The disadvantage of Mike’s products is that you have to buy each product separately rather than having it all within one simple account. Additionally, the total cost if you were to buy all 4 above listed products is £320 + VAT (total cost £384) whereas you could receive all these tools for £15 per month from Oddsmonkey. Having said that, Mike’s products do come with a £1 free trial, just be careful to cancel before the trial ends if you don’t want to continue.
Additional free matched betting sites include: Yes Bets link
Pure Profit link

ADDITIONAL

1) Depositing and withdrawing
To ensure you qualify for the Welcome Offer, use a bank card to deposit into your newly set up bookmaker account. Most sites will allow Paypal too though check the terms and conditions.
If you use Skrill or Neteller, typically you will not qualify for the Welcome Offer (bookmakers have this rule to prevent fraud) but you can check the terms and conditions.
Withdrawing is easy, you should receive your funds within 1-3 working days depending on the bookmaker.

2) Sending identification documents
Occasionally, bookmakers may require to send in identification documents (passport or drivers licence for example) and a copy of your bank card. This is to prevent fraud. This usually happens if you are not listed on the Electoral Roll or there is a difference between your home address and billing address. Simply take a photo of the documents they ask for and email them back.
